Takeshi Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Bought the PC magazine today and a small article chats about a motor showbeing cancelled due to the charges, foremost that is in 2010, if you wish to enter Central London this rule applys: Diesel-powered vehicles which weigh 1500KG or more unladen, made before 2001, which do not comply with new legislation on emmisions will be charged £100 a day to do so, unless the vehicle is upgraded to meet new rules. £100?! Seriously, I can see classic cars being screwed in a few years
5hane Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 CRAP !!! i live in the low emission zone im screwed before i can even drive edit: is it only diesel?
Takeshi Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 It'll only effect van-sized vehicles and so on, but with the way its going with this emmisons lark, its really starting to worry me whats gonna happen to us lot. Edit: Yes diesel. At the moment
5hane Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 they will have to transport ace cafe out side the m25 thinking about it, theres alot of people in high places who own old car collections, one the queen lol! maby itsa rumer ?
FredTransit Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 This is not the Congestion Charge, it's the Low Emission Zone, and it's already in for vehicles over 3.5 tons. Cars are not affected. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/default.aspx The reason that show was probably cancelled is because of the tow and flatbed trucks that carry the cars would not comply. That's why the Enfield Pageant will be moving to a new site next year.
Takeshi Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 Ok my bad about the low emmisons zone thingy, but I find it ridiculous to be honest. They seem to think people have money coming out there ar$e.
5hane Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 the company i work for HAD to pay £3000 to bring there flat bed up to standares and it isnt too old
FredTransit Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Oh really? Try operating a fleet of Mk2 transits from within the zone. I am stocking up on pintos. The tax exempt ones are going diesel just to spite TFL (tax exempt = LEZ exempt). Do you think they would notice if I registered a D series as petrol??
FredTransit Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 the company i work for HAD to pay £3000 to bring there flat bed up to standares and it isnt too old Too old for what? If its registered after 2003 it complies (for the minute, Euro 5 is coming in in 2010). Did your company run it through the vehicle checker on the TFL website?

FredTransit Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Fair enough, if it was before 2000 then it would not be compliant. The only thing is, it will have to have a VOSA test and pass EVERY year to be compliant. This is aside from the plate test. Can somebody explain why one city in the UK can decide to have higher emissions standard than the rest of the UK? Oh, and if anybody is thinking cos they don't live in or near London it doesn't apply to them, you can bet it's coming to a city near you! There is money to be made with this, it's never about the environment, it's about the money.....
Takeshi Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 Apparently, I think its Edingborough, some place North, want to ban cars older than 1998(?) from the town centre.
FredTransit Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Bloody ell I hadn't heard that, I know some cities are planning on making congestion charging schemes
Takeshi Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 Bristol has been trying it for ages, it'll happen eventually though. Especially with this new Cabot Circus opening next month.
evil knievel Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 if they do that we could turn OSF into a car manufacturer. we would make "new" old skool fords and reregister them... can't ban '08 plate fuel chugging rust buckets from the town centre but seriously its all very ridiculous, congestion charge costs us a bloody fortune (especially when we forget to pay it!!) in fact i have to pay it now.
Takeshi Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 OR get a Q plate Would that work? Lol.
FredTransit Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I thought of that, I don't think it does. I am trying to find an appropriate vehicle (Mk5 transit, 1995 ish, diesel) with a Q plate. I thought I had one (saw it on an ice cream van) but I might have taken the number down wrong, it said details not found. A mate said he saw a Q plate on a van on ebay, he ran it through TFL and it said not compliant.
evil knievel Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Q, O and I plates never existed I thought??
FredTransit Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 Q plates are issued to kit cars, stolen recovered (where the insurance gets the number plate), imported cars that have no proof of age and vehicles that are made of parts from several years. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... =p3907.m29
