within the last few months my car has started too leak oil, alot, but i cant understand where from. Its all down the left bank of the engine roughly oil filter level and down and yes the filters tight. At the mo it runs twin carbs and the breather runs from the breather union too a tank, but it also smokes alot from the breather on the tank. The oil is all over the starter, sump, runs out the bellhousing has plastered the exhaust etc and stinks when hot its starting to annoy. Any ideas, and the engine has done 126000 so did wonder if its just worn?

Thanks

My old capper's camshaft seal unseated itself causing oil to leak out, hit the cooling fan and plaster itself all over the engine bay. Completely flumoxed me at the time beacuase the oil was everwhere but a friend sussed it for me and managed to reseat the seal and it was fine then until I sold it

if its done that many miles all the rubber seals will be hardend and then leak .sump gaskets shrink, then leak. you could just buy new crankshaft , cam and auxiliary seals ,then fit them all, see what happens?also rocker cover gasket.

The engine was semi stripped recently for painting and most of the seals were replaced excluding crank. Im thinking its possibly coming from dipstick tube on the top end, what do you lot use for dip stick tubes when running twin carbs?

Thanks

ahhhh make sure the BOTTOM seal is sealed fully!!!

also make sure ur dipstick seals at the top!

i used a transit van pinto engined dipstick, it bends around the carbs, its just a bitch to seal on the bottom =o(

yeah i have a tranny stick tube on mine, how did you seal yours vibrating cake?

I worried it was bad news,

thanks guys. :beer::thumbsup:

Tom

i got an angle grinder, some degreaser and some "chemical metal"

degreased the bottom of the dipstick and the block.

then grinded the block down a little (grooved it really) and the bottom of the dipstick i gave that a bit of texture

then moulded the chemical metal around both then!!!

put a large tie wrap around the dipstick so it holds the chemical metal to the dipstick quite tight and let it set at least overnight

there must be simpler methods but i couldnt get ahold of, and nobody had ever heard of a lower dipstick seal bush lol

the dipstick tube is just a push fit into the block, a few drops of thread lock will hold it in place nicely but both surfaces must be spotlessly degreased

cheers
