mk1super Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Can someone explain what a Group one spec is with regards to a Rs 2000 pinto Also what the difference between Idf carbs and dcoe's? I thank you in advance and as always apologise for my ignorance
MK2Ed Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I've heard of group 1 spec pinto heads where bigger valves are used (Standard inlet are 42mm inlet and 36mm exhaust). Group 1 are 44mm inlet and 38mm exhaust - but u can go bigger .
Toby Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 IDF carbs ferrari specific versions of IDA carbs and are down draft - like the stack of carbs you imagine in the back window of a mid engined car. DCOES are side drafts ie your conventional "twin 40's" (45,48 etc) as found on most OSF's

Toby Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I believe they were fitted to the rally cars for torque reasons, and side drafts tend to show more power. Front wheel drive cars tend to be fitted with the down draft layout because of the space issue. Personally I like the side draft layout cos the air path seems less torturous. Andy Harris used to fly on IDA's but now goes faster on side drafts. Also some one told me - may have been Andy, that IDA's are easier to set up than IDF's. No experience personally.
mk1super Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 I'll stick with the Dcoe's then
