I am pleased to be able to report that we had a great day out at Haynes, the timings of the multipal starting points all worked well and we were treated like Royalty by the museum staff, even parking Capris in the Chairmans reserved parking spaces for photos. We had a lot of interest from the public and much flashing of lights and sounding of horns as we convoyed.

We were sadened not to have been joined by ANY OSF members, the fact they were invited and elected not to support us maybe shows that the Ford communities are not as supportive of eachother as they could be.

I am glad to say that on my recent visit to Crich, OSF supporters were quite happy to share their experiences and knowledge with anyone who showed an interest... including me!

Sorry you feel that way Guy but I suspect you'll find few people saw your post, if posted in a busy chat room it soon slips down the order if no-one picks up on it.

On the subject of support, I approached your club several years ago about other marques of Ford Joining in with TACO and was told (I quote) "Our members feel that they want to keep it to just capris." We have meets regularly down at route 38 that welcomes every owner and model of Ford, have you or any of your members ever come along?

Hello Guy. Like Vista said, I'm sorry to hear that OSF members were unable to make the meet althought I suspect that it was not because they "elected" not to be there or that they didn't want to "support other clubs in the Ford community" but more likely that people had made prior arrangements  .

If you are holding another meet/convoy/event then please feel free to invite along OSF members in the future and (as has been mentioned before) give plenty of notice and keep bumping up the post to keep the interest going. Most of us look for a good excuse to take a drive in the countryside and I am sure that if the timing is right, you will get OSF members in attendance. I have been to the Haynes motor museum a number of times and agree that it is well worth the visit

As the founder of TACO, I can honestly say that the club policy on this is, and always has been that Capri ownership is not essential, one just has to be an enthusiast. Unfortunately I cannot speak for every individual member, they all have their own views and opinions, and some I know are very keen to retain a one marque identity. We have had Granada, Probe and even Chevette owners in our ranks. Unless one encourages other types, there will never be converts, and applicable technical advice is often missed. We are of course primarily a Capri club, but share a love of classic car ownership with all owners, and regularly partake in mixed events. even travelling 250 odd miles to attend rallys such as Crich.

There were a huge number of views of our mailings on this site, so I can only assume that weather, other commitments or lack of interest all played their part for a OSF no show. All of us based in the SW have had a diabolical season due to the weather, cancelled shows etc, and most owners of classics are pretty fed up with this year. Roll on 2009!

I do wonder whether, based on your reply, clubs in general tend to look inwards, I will use this as a topic at our next social meet, it will be interesting to get other views on this.

Apologies i couldn't make it basicly because i wasn't going to tax the car just for one day as its now of the road for winter.

Having moved to north east cornwall at the begining of this year i have attended several events in the area and still not been able to bump in to your club  Do you hold monthly meetings in a pub some where? I just might come along for a chat some time :D:wink:

P.S. get some pics of the run up in the event reports section :thumbsup:8)

Not to worry, this year has been awful weather wise. We are in the process of re-organising our meets, the home pub has been sold and is no longer a free house. We will probbly wind up with two regular venues. I suggest you keep an eye on our club website. Sadly this forum won't let me post a link yet. But I will do as soon as I can.

Course you can't MOT a car for the sake of one run at the tail end of the season! A couple of us are certainly up for the Brooklands 40th. A couple of my old Capris have wound up being owned by Tas Cornwall in Sussex, including the feature car in the June 08 CCI rag. Small world!!! I did the Ford bash at Crich nr. Derby a couple of weeks ago, so yes I do travel when I get the chance!
