sambo Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Hi all, If, say an engine came available that had a set of T/B's attached but no ECU or anything else. What else would i need to get to get the lump up and running and what do you folk recommend? I will need injectors, i know that much but ho do i know what ones to get and which ECU to buy? Also, i know i'll need to get throttle position sensor/s, is it 'one size fits all'?? or is it unique to the T/B manufacturer? Which ECU is the best to get? I take it i will need a crank sensor, and trigger wheel thingy? Where do i get that from and which one etc? HELP!!! And finally what the hell else would i need to at least get the car started so i can get it to be mapped etc.!!!?? Cheers all, any info would help!
spitbarnatt Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 You'll need everything you've mentioned plus a wiring loom. I've got an MBE ecu attached to my engine which was mapped by SBD, but there are loads of programmable ECU's available. It's normally down to the preference of the tuner you are going to use.
sambo Posted October 13, 2008 Author Report Posted October 13, 2008 Ta, things like throttle positions sensors etc, are they specific to the t/b manufacturer? What about crank sensor?
spitbarnatt Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Not sure to be honest. The throttle position sensor is just a potentiometer at the end of the day so it probably depends on the mounts. It's more likely to be specific to the ECU you decide to use, as would the crank sensor. Might be best to pm cossiematt, he knows alot more than me.
zetecmk2 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 what engine is it? does it have a dizzy? ford sensors can be read by emerald, along with rover, vauxhall etc so i presume most sensors can be read by most ecu's. the only one i had a problem with was the tps. my ecu read it backwards!! emerald supplied one that worked!!
