DAZZA Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 .... my springs, until I can afford coil overs? Please dont say neither, im playing with heights to decide on tyre choice.
antz Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 cutting springs is dangerous. if you gotta do something then clamp em
bortaf Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Clamps are illeagal, cutting is an MOT fail and could get your car taken away and crushed nowdays, a PG9 at the best, not worth it when springs are £20 each Why coilovers? unless you get the car corner wieghted and set up they are a waist IMHO But hey whatever floats yer boat i'd go for cut personly

DAZZA Posted October 24, 2008 Author Report Posted October 24, 2008 I will have to eventually run coilovers due to the 100e's having to run adaptor top mounts to reduce the track the capper front end gives.

4parajon Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 My 1" lowered springs were only £20 from RD
vibrating_Cake Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 My 1" lowered springs were only £20 from RD same here, and you can specify the poundage
Fiesta Steve Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 I'm sure I only paid £12.50 for my springs from RalDes. But cutting is fine by me, the springs you buy are cut off a long length anyway, whats the difference. Been cutting them for years with no problems
petrolhead01 Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 there is no problem cutting them personally i would use a saw or very thin cutting wheel on a hand held grinder just because its a nice clean cut and you really dont want to get to much heat into the spring as this may affect its tempering,,,,and its also much neater and once there cut ,grind a graduated flat on the bottom edge about 35 mm long then when compressed in the cup the spring will seat correctly and the mot man will be happy, i would personally lock wire them into the cup as well just for an extra bit or safety if they are very short .
richyc Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 ive just replaced some that i cut about 15years ago where's that gone! we cut them done to size then just heated a very small area to twist back down flat, to sit in the cup. it has never been any trouble or gone wrong.
jayson2.3pinto Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 if a you can get a gas torch to the spring it works wonders and you can get to your desired height no probs
caprinerd Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 used clamps in the past and it didnt matter how tight they got done up they still moved
Retro-gone. Posted October 25, 2008 Report Posted October 25, 2008 i bought some clamps, they are fine for setting the height but for fooks sake dont try driving far with em on, scared the shit outta me! totally useless and dangerous in my opinion. so i sold em on ebay
