Smudger105e Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I need some lamps (that's bulbs to heathens lol ) for my fog lamps on the Super Deluxe, for the MoT They are for the blue spot foglamps, and are a phillips lamp, I cant see any writing on them, but they are a plain filament bulb, single contact, about an inch in diameter (the glass bowl) with the base about the same size as an ordinary stop/tail light. the bayonet arrangement is strange, it takes the form of a collar half way up the base, with three shaped holes for the bayonet, so the map located on three pins in the lamp itself. When I find my camera I will post a pic of the lamp, but the foglights on the car are here...
Smudger105e Posted October 28, 2008 Author Report Posted October 28, 2008 I understand that if fogs are fitted they must be working for the MoT... If I'm wrong then that's all good, otherwise I have to repair them or remove them. Any of the testers on here tell me if they need to work?
cisco24uk Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Get a pic up and I will have a look through the books at work.
tim Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 put a cover over them, the tester cant remove them i believe
Mr Sam Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 my fiesta passed its MOT with 1 non working foglight although i was led to believe if there there they have to work, guess its down to the tester
baz105e Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 they HAVE to work if they are visably connected (wired up) but if the wires are visably not connected then they cant fail, its the same with high level brake lights
motortech Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I think it refers to rear fog lights. I have never heard of front fog lights being a testable item
Copey Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 i have always thought that any lights fitted to a car should work for an MOT, best bet if you cant get bulbs is to just take them off for the test
Tom Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 who told you that? Front fogs don't even come in to an mot test. only headlamps mate, side, dipped and main beam. so leave the fogs as they are see here http://www.ukmot.com/1-2.asp#Text_top
Tom Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 you dont need to. i'm a tester and i've put a link to the rule book
Copey Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 you dont need to. i'm a tester and i've put a link to the rule book didnt know you where a tester mate, and the book doesnt mention them and i would be pissed if i read it and thought "oh it doesnt mention them" and then it failed
PAUL MANN Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 only rear fog lamps are mot testable, for vehicles from 1st april 1980 on
Smudger105e Posted October 28, 2008 Author Report Posted October 28, 2008 Thank you folk, all very useful info, I will sort the seatbelt and stick it in for the Mot, it's on the Anglia Club stand at the NEC in a couple of weeks, so got to get it done!
Smudger105e Posted October 28, 2008 Author Report Posted October 28, 2008 Crappy pics taken on my phone and bluetoothed across (ain't I a clever boy!) The Ghia badge is only there to give an idea of size...
Messenjah Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 send a pm to tony petrolhead01 as he has the same spots and may have or know where you can get some new bulbs
Smudger105e Posted October 29, 2008 Author Report Posted October 29, 2008 Thanks, I'll do that, but will try on the trade stands at the NEC too, hope there should be something there!
