First the alternator problem and then yesterday on the way home from Stoke to Wirral it started spluttering loads as if it was running out of petrol. Then it did it so badly i had to pull into a truck depo that we were by in Nantwich (some agricultural place) anyway, i checked the spark - nice and strong, checked the fuel was getting in the carb and it was. Scratched my head a bit and checked all the vacuum hoses. Everything seemed fine but it just wouldnt start. The security guard came over, he was euqually puzzled, got the mobile works mechanic to look and he was made up as he use to have 3 of them he was a happy fella! The thing is, he checked everything i checked and we all stood there scratching our heads. I turned it over and it fired into life as if there had been no problem whatsoever. When i asked him what he thinks is should do he simply said "bang the filter back on and bugger off!" so i did and it was absolutely fine all the home. Im confused!! The coil looked rusty and tired - didnt check it with electical diagnosis stuff as i aint got a clue but i just swapped it with the capri one which i know is spot on. I put a whole can of carb cleaner down it before and slapped my k and n filter on and its pulling like a train!! I forgot what a noise difference they make to! The thing is, i need to trust it to get me round the country and at the moment theres a doubt in my mind as the problem is a wierd intermittent one. It hasnt shown any signs of being dodgy since i put the stuff down it.... Whatdo you think? Im made up with it but it needs to be relieble or im buggered!

Someone else mentioned water in the fuel, how can i sort that? he said he had no problems though and was surprised when i told him bout it breaking down. :?

no joke! that car never even misfired when he had it, but its only used to short journeys, if you have driven lots in a short time, it might just be havin a moan about it mate, be gentle with her! she'll be right

possibly the cold freezing the petrol in the carb?

when my car goes out and its cold it can be a right bitch and doesnt want to go but its just petrol freezing in the carb. give it a min ticking over and its fine again.

stuck some rubber mats on my grill as well which helps :lol:
