Rear disc convertion

What the chestest way to have the biggest discs and capilers on the rear on my mex? Sick and tired of trying to get parts for it now!

what discs / calipers have u got on the front u dont need big brakes on the rear

Capri 2.8i,ill change them at a later date for bigger ones,i want big one on the back so i dont have to change them again for when the big cossy goes in!

the rears always need to be smaller than the front brakes so if ur going with big rears u will need to upgrade the front at the same time u can have to much stoping power for your car. as all u will end up doing is locking the brakes on and sliding to a stop

btw ive got 2.8 legs and 4pots with 9in drums out back and mine seems to lock up on the front very easly

Found a company that sell a conversion kit using sierra/granada calipers(not included) for £151. Shouldnt need more than that and it looks prity to.

£150 for the convertion but no capliers! thats expensive! whats in the kit then? just the brakets!

 

So could put m16's on the back.

you don't want anything that big on the back mate, remember there is no weight on the arse end and it will just lock the rears before the fronts even bite

Cheapest rear disc conversion??, Mk3 escort front solid discs, Granada scorpio callipers, Mk6 RS2000 handbrake cable, cheap kit from Raldes, or Fostek. for the brackets, To get the discs to fit you need to have a few thou fii the OD of the flange, or a few off the bore of the disc, bolt and weld the brackets, and use flexibles to connect the callipers to the axle, not a double coil of brake pipe, as the callipers move as the brakes are applied, and will fatigue the solid pipe.

And mk3 4 escort or fiesta solid discs and mounting bracket from rally design cable hand brake job done

The Old Ford Autos kit is just the Milton Race kit...

 

You are better off buying it from Miltons as they dont charge VAT

 

If you check the Milton Catalogue you will see its £75. (www.miltonrace.co.uk)

 

And like all Milton stuff he's done all the thinking for you so it just bolts on.

 

You still need some Sierra 2.0 GLS / 4x4 / Cosworth 2wd calipers and some disks... oh and a Cossie handbrake cable but the thing it does come with that other kits dont is a nice bracket that bolts in to the tunnel to support the other side of the split handbrake cable.

 

 

As for big disks on the back... you are heading for disaster if you dont fit a bias pedal box.

 

Big disks on the back will result in 'snatching' and the backs locking before the fronts resulting in Spin City... which isnt pleasant at 70mph on a damp motorway.

 

 

A 2wd Cossie has solid disks on the back and they arent much bigger than the Escort fronts used in the rear disk kits, but a cossie is probably 400 or 500kg's heavier than a MkI Escort so you dont need as much effort to stop it.

 

 

Big isnt always best !!
