pauline Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Posted December 4, 2008 could be a crack in the block or the head you cant tell untill its pressure tested. saying that it could be the head just isnt seating down properly ok need to get it checked to find out which it could be I had checked all the head over before putting it in. the old one is a bit mucky. think i need to get the 100e running have a bad feeling that the victor could be off the road for a bit.
hellblue Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 A lot of old cars do get white sludge in the cap thats not a problem, you can get it on the dip stick too cos it can form on the sides of the dip stick tube then onto the dipstick when you take it out !!, but if the oil is like a mc.dees milk shake then its a problem !!! if you got water in the oil & it was that bad it can take 3 oil & FILTER changes to get it all out, use some cheap oil to do this If things (which they have) have been moved it may be just a bad connection on a wire ect which made it cut out ??
Deano1351 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 You said it broke down and wouldnt start untill a booster pack finally started it then you drove home with no lights before it died again? That sounds like your battery isnt charging to me and your running out of electric, also if youv lost some water after changing the head gasket then this could just be the water levelling itself (releasing airlocks) as so often happens after an engine strip down. Id check the voltage at the battery with it running, should be 13.5ish and top up the water and let it run for a while with the rad cap off and the heater on full blast topping it up as it goes down. Also you said you changed the oil but not the filter which wont help if the oil was a crappy colour before changing it. This shite freezing cold weather doesnt help either with old motors
