mk3cokebottle Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 whats your opinion ?? my household is of mixed feelings i think the new law of being able to commit suicide legally is a tough one , after seeing one of my best mates suffer with a muscle eating disorder and see him go down hill from a bloke who was very athelitic and bang into cars etc to being fed through a straw and having to have his mum look after him like a baby i think the decision of death should be your own in most cases , jerry has regularly said that he doesn't want to live anymore and his pain killers are no longer working he describes waking up in the morning a chore it takes him 1 1/2 to get washed and dressed and a good 45 mins to have his breakfast , although he is in pain and is fighting as hard as he can you can see that its killing him from the outside in and its horrible to see it especially when you think 3-4 years ago he would be sat in the pub / club with you enjoying life. 9pm on sky real lives is an in depth documentry about this subject if your interested
sab6024 Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 In my job we have this discusion quite regularly. I personally think that there should be a choice and of which can only be made by the individual and therefore having the right to die. Obviously there is the biggest problem of being able to police it. We see families who are clearly only after money and houses etc that want rid of the family member because they are ill or a drain on finances. A family member deciding that the ill relative wants to die could surely boil down to manslaughter or even murder. I work with elderly and have seen some nasty sights of people being kept alive even though they have clearly given up themselves. It's quite upsetting tbh but we have to switch ourselves off to it as we have a job to do. Then what about the people who want to die but all they need is a review of medication and can then lead a normal life again??
YOUNGY Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 if the person concerned is seriously ill and will not recover then i think that if they wish to die they should be able to, but i don't think anyone else should be able to make that decision, they should be able to make a living will which clearly states when they should be allowed to die gracefully and painlessly. What is the point of keeping someone alive if they do not wish to live any longer and they are in constant pain. I wouldn't keep animals alive if they were in pain and there was no cure so why a human???
Copey Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 choice of the person who is suffering, and nobody elses choice, its ther life and if they want it to end then thats fair enough
countrybumpkin Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 i belive that if your are ill with no chance of ever getting better then you should be given the option to end your life rather than suffer after all a vet will quite happley plut a dog to sleep if its termanily ill.
R1.Andy Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 if there is 100% no doubt that there life will never get better.and reviewed regulary ..as in new drugs are doing this and trials show etc etc.. but i would now way want to live say 12 months with no return..then im all 4 it just spent 2 yrs watching me misses dad get worse and worse ..he had no quality of life at all a life like that ais no life at all you no ur just waiting just hope when its my turn it dont drag out
DanV Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 as youngy says... If a dog is terminally ill, suffering or in pain, they'll put it down. If its a human they'll keep you alive and suffering for as long as possible. My greatnan was very ill and was kept alive by drugs. It was horrible, she was hallucinating, pissing and shitting herself for the few hours a day she was awake and started to smell, which i later found out was because she was rotting even though she was not dead. So i say that i think it should be legal. And if they choose not to make it legal here, at least not prosecute those who take family/friends to other countries to assist them in doing whats best for them
Jiffer Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 this is a tricky one, ive seen in the past able bodied people who want to end there life just through depression, in most cases these people could end there own lives on there own if they realy want to. if after leading an active life i had it taken away from me and could not live with any form of dignity then put me in me box and send me to meet my maker.
leanne.mk1.xr2 Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 i totally agree with all the comments above the only person who should be able to decide is the person that is ill and when i say ill i mean no more can be done for them and they have no quaility of life not just any tom dick or harry
tash105e Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I agree with all of the above too. My mum works with elderly people and 98% of them are on there death beds (literally) and want to die as nothing can be done for them. I think it should be allowed let them end the missery they go through everyday.
tazrocks88 Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 The thing all these people who say no to it dont get is what suffering most people who want to die go through. They need to see what some ill people have to go through on a day to day basis for some it can be hell. So i say yes!
