V8ian Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 OOOHHH Crusty, must have been kept in a boat shed on the end of a pier

chillduke Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 tiz lots of work needed but on a good note the engine runs quite well
Retro-gone. Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 lol, it only came off road in 2006 and hasnt turned a wheel since, engire fited up pretty much straight away but stank of old petrol..
Slammed Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 save it tony, would look the nuts nest to your yellow one, two yellow mk1's
Copey Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 tis rather crusty, needs to be saved though! would look awesome and is a rare beast
FredTransit Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I never saw that much surface rust under the bonnet before! There is a lot to be said for leaving an oil leak ! Yes, it's a bit crusty, but I have bought worse! WTF happened to the door trims though? Is there some kind of leak at the top of the door?
Retro-gone. Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 ive no idea how the door cards and seats got like that, it doesnt leak cos i just powerwashed it and its dry inside. just found these in the boot, and old full tin of waxoil and a 1960's 1st aid kit still full and mint.
Savvi Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 That has to be saved .................... that was always my dream car when i was young ................. my step dad had a brand new one as a company car for Smith's Crisps, he was a rep, in red. On your other thread some one has already offered to buy it from you, i know he's been looking for one like this for a long time, if your not going to restore it sell it complete so someone who will giving you some cash to do more work on yours , him a project and the car gets saved Antz does this link work for you ?
Retro-gone. Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 its worth much more to me in spares, most parts i need are good.
FredTransit Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 its worth much more to me in spares, most parts i need are good. NOOOOOO! Are you serious?
caprinerd Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 fair bit to do to her, but it will be worth it tony all the wires on the fuse box made me chuckle , the hard part will be the scuttle tony the other stuff is still sorcerble i have a set of pre face lift dummy vents and head light surrrounds with chrome sections if you need tony. just go through it bit by bit and she`ll be back on the road have confidence in you tony, believe in your self
antz Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Ive just been round to see Pantz and had a look at the old girl myself. Its a shame thats it in quite a state but its nice to know that it was used everyday up until 2006 when the old fella gave up driving. Its had one hell of a run at life and has never been restored. Just had done whats needed to keep it alive. Better than it sitting in a field for 15years rotting or being coveted sat on ramps with mirrors underneath ad never driven. Yes its a genuine car and would be worth saving. And it is saveable if you have an undying passion to weld and a lot of time. BUT If I was in Pantz' position I would do exactly what he is doing. Strip it for the parts that I would need then flog on whats left. Even I know spares for mk1 capris arent common or cheap so to get a whole car to strip for spares is a god send! And lets face it....He can whats left on and someone will buy it to restore! After all it is a genuine mk1 GTXLR
FredTransit Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I thought it was passed on for nothing so it would be restored, not stripped? I bet the old boy that gave it to him will be well chuffed.
Retro-gone. Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 well if hed described the accurately i for sure wouldnt have said id restore it!!! i spoke to him today and told him im not capable of restoring it, (he hasnt seen the car since 2006 when he was taken into a nursing home) ive explained to him my intentions and he gave me his blessing and even appologised for the car been so rotten bless him. his words were ' if you can make use of the good parts to keep mine on the road then its like an organ doner leaving his heart to keep another person alive. im not capable of welding this car up nor can i afford to pay for it doing, its not just welding either...soi would rather keep it for spares for my capri . im sure im not the only one that would do this, even if i am it doesnt change anything. using the car for doner parts is my personal best option, wether or not its yours fred is immaterial to me.
FredTransit Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Fair enough, if the bloke who gave it to you is fine with it, I thought you had said he didn't want it scrapped (I read this as keeping it on the road). It's still a shame such an original car won't be returned to the road.
Retro-gone. Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 he didnt know how bad it is now, another few things that i need to consider is ive been on 2-3 day a week for 7 weeks, were all worried for our jobs, i have no savings at all, so lets say my capri gearbox goes, or the axle, or prop etc, where would i find them or the money to buy them? makes perfect sense to me to keep all these spares, after all im never gonna sell my car, its in my will to be left to my son who will cherish it just as i do. im not gonna rip the GT to bits and ebay everything ya know, il sell the engine cos thats no good to me, the rest will be kept in one peice untill i need a part.
Slammed Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 fair play tony, couldnt agree with you more now mate
antz Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 why is everyone complaining about this? Its his car, he will do with it what he wishes! If it was me with the capri I would do the exact thing that Pantz is doing. I wouldnt want to tackle it after seeing it. although it is saveable I wouldnt take on such a project. If you need any help just lemme know
