antz Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 CALLING ALL GUITAR KNOWLEDGEABLES!!! I need help idenifying this guitar! I got it from a music shop for £20 to refurb and rebuild. Its original colour was black and white chequer but thats now been sanded off. The body is the same shape as a strat but its slightly smaller and varies slightly in shape. And doesnt have the jacking point in the same place. The neck could be from an acoustic (not sure). The electrics are shot but Im gonna get it rebuilt by my local music shop (if i can) Anyone seen anything like it before? before i started: Current status with scratch plate and electrics just placed on teh body for the pic:
Retro-gone. Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 1st thought it looks like a 70's jap copy, bring it round and il have a butchers.
antz Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Posted January 7, 2009 will do tony Im gonna take it into mancinis in scarborough and see if he can revive it and renew the bits it needs (most bits )
zetecmk2 Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 looks like a satelite, cheap '70's guitar.
antz Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks for your input Zetec! I never found any marks on the body to identify what it is and I suspect the neck is not the original. But I wanted a guitar to customise to my own. 1970's...that aint bad going!
sambo Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 looks like a satelite, cheap '70's guitar. i remember them! mmmm... lovely!
antz Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 looks like a satelite, cheap '70's guitar. BY JOVE YOU ARE RIGHT! Satellite 65/T An entry level guitar, made in Japan in about 1980 and imported and distributed in the UK by Fletcher, Coppock and Newman, costing around £40. Ideal for a youthful rocker on a limited budget and USA marketed as Telestar.
Retro-gone. Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 like i said, a jap copy.. satalites were really good for their time, specially the les paul types. they are actually collectable now altho not worth a great deal.
antz Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 i dont mind about its value. I am building it for me to use and keep as my own 'custom' guitar
zetecmk2 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 i had a sunburst one in about '83, a mxr dist pedal and an orange amp (they were cheap then!!!) cider!!! oh, the punk just flowed out, my mum still reminds me regularly
antz Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 ha ha ha ha!!!! Im gonna take this one to my local music shop on saturday and see if he can work his magic. i want it to be restored but updated. The bridge and temolo are alright and cleaned up ok with some autosol stuff. but the scratch plate, electrics and the tuning keys are past it. Gonna get rid of the microwave style knobs and go for some all black ones to update it a tad
antz Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 And the necksoriginal not on mine! the headstock is a different shape and i suspect it to be from an acoustic. itll do though
evil knievel Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 i dont think it's a satelite, wrong pick ups, wrong body shape, wrong headstock and neck, different amount of frets. could be a jensen or similar '70s copy, but its definitely something like a satelite, or a jensen or something like that. ________ i was comparing that to the picture you posted by the way, i could be completely King wrong thats definitely the original neck though!

That neck sits slightly proud of the scratchplate (hecn the small cut out for it). you are right the shape is slightly off but then when i stripped it down i found 4 layers of paint underneath it so its probably been sanded down and adpated at some point either way...im gonna get it working again and rock fook outta it (when i leanr to play )
zetecmk2 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 imho do the work to a better body/neck combo! search ebay for projects. loads of good body/neck combo's, made of better quality wood.treat it like a car project, you'll end up wishing you put all this effort into something better when you can't get the intonation spot on and need to buy a new (better) neck
MightySprocket Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 zetecs right, it will probably play like a banjo strung with cow gut and will make learning difficult. Spend the money on an epiphone les paul instead, great learning tool and good enough for an advanced play too
antz Posted January 9, 2009 Author Report Posted January 9, 2009 zetecs right, it will probably play like a banjo strung with cow gut and will make learning difficult. Spend the money on an epiphone les paul instead, great learning tool and good enough for an advanced play too already got a tanglewood les paul just wanted this to play around. if it sounds like a banjo then so be it least ill have my own custom guitar also upon further inspection i must apologise to a few people. the neck is the original according to a guitar collector i spoke to. he confirmed its a japanese copy which can be brough back to life and is from the 60s-70. if in original condition it would be worth about 100-150 but as its been resprayed and in bits its worth absolutely nothing. i dont care though. i like it
zetecmk2 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 where are you? i've got this unfinished project just gathering dust. the body and neck are made by hosono, lovely neck, same profile as high end ibanez rg's
