squiz @ fpe Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Hello, i did have a thread on here but i cant find it to update it!!! Anyway, bought this mk1 jus over 4 years ago, had a 1700 xflow with a set of twin 40's when i bought it, after about 2 months the engine blew up, sending a big end thro me block!! A 2.0zvh then commenced, but after 9 months on blood sweat and tears, the oil pump packed it!!! At the time a mate was selling a 1800 zetec and we did a deal that he would fit it and get it all running!! The engine produced 188bhp on 45's, altho i had nothing to prove this!! the engine was put in with 40's as the engine came carbless!!! They bay was fully seam welded and a few other trick bits were added!!! Enough of my ramblings, heres some pics!!!! The 40'sm that were on it were jank, so i got rid of them asap!! The fella who fitted the engine did a swap for some r1 carbs!!! they were bolted on and the car drove well, no coughs, splutters, drove like a injection car, but i missed the roar noise of webers!!! Then Feb last year she went off to be prepped for paint!!! Got her back from the painters, and i wasnt totally happy with the paint job, so she went back!! These pics are when i first got it back!!! Shes was put back together and made it to the OSF London to Brighton run!!! Had a few problems on the way down, nothing the AA man couldnt fix!!! After this, she went back to the painters, and came back 100 times better than the first time!!! Car was a different colour and this time it all matched lol!!! Seats ready to take the runners; Seat fitted in Marts car; And finally the stickers; About November last year we removed the head to find that the headgasket had gone!!! We'd never had the engine apart before so maybe it was a blessing in disguise!! we found that she had forged acralite pistons, a mild set of kent cams, and a small amount of headwork!!! I also took the plunge and decided to go and buy a brand new set of 45's!! The differnence they make is mad!!! Big thanks to Tommy at FMS for supplying and fitting the carbs, and for mapping it!!! I also purchased a Compbrake bias pedal box to help on the stopping side of things!!! img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v174/squiz/mk1%20rebuild/13122008126.jpg[/img] And thats how shes sitting now!!! Its goin back to the painters next week to have the boot painted as it wasnt painted before, so is quite a way out!!! Other than that she's pretty much there, jus needs the interior sorting!!! Just need to say a massive to thanks to Mart @ FPE, he has built this car top to bottom, without him i wouldnt own it!! The bloke is a true legend!! Thanks again mate!! Cheers for lookimg, sorry for the long thread lol!!!
