is it legal to use a brake disc between the prop flange and the diff flange as a handbrake? using a motorbike caliper and on a seperate system?(use its own master cylinder? if that makes sense!!!!

i no it has to be machanical no hydrolic handbrakes vosa would be the people to speek to

dont see y not landrover use em on prop but the hydraulic bit would be mot failure i think,

it was the landrover that gave me the idea. do motorbike calipers use cables? i have no idea!!!!

whats wrong with using the s ierra rear calipers and fiesta discs, mk5 xr3i rear cable got it on mine and works fine

it will pass aslong as its not hydraulic... and it has the correct braking efficiency and bikes tend to be hydraulic but i believe there are many disc type handbrakes etc like saxo vtrs etc etc the main problem is you may have to shorten the prop and it could possibly foul the diff housing

you also have to remember the diff moves up and down so a spinning disc mounted to it could go through diff tunnel if you reach full axle travel, also by using this set up have you ever noticed how landrovers tend to rock back and forward after applying handbrake, this is because you have technically jammed the transmission not the wheels, each to thier own and best to check with your mot tester as it is his final word that says pass or fail

You can have a hydraulic handbrake on you car and still have an MOT.. just fit the cable as well... there are a number of kits around.. just check out the mags

 

It seems to be alot of fuss fitting extra calipers when the kit if fitted properly will do the job fine
