does anyone drive a mondeo as i'd like a honest opinion as to what there like as i need a car thats cheap to run to go to work (i do 80 odd mile a day) i was looking at a 2lt tdci as the clamed mpg is good and at arround 4 years old there really cheap for what looks like a really nice car

i was also looking at the x type jags as there not much more and are still a mondeo so they should be very similar to own and drive

I had a 2.5 V6 ST24 thats the only mondeo i have ever owned. I loved it to pieces but its obviously not the same shape as what your looking at.

Iv got a 53 plate Audi A4 TDI now and now its been mapped im getting 690 miles to the tankful. they are on the market for around 6k at the moment too

we use the diesel mondeos as response cars and have done for a number of years. considering they are abused and driven hard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week they have been brilliant. reliability hasnt been a problem apart from a few turbo's which have imploded! prob due to the never letting them cool down after a job

i have also had the st24 as a daily drive and loved it, again no probs but they have a rep for the plastic finned water pump to fall apart and screw with internals. they can be replaced with metal impellors though. only other prob have know about is front coil springs snapping, had 2 replaced on mine in a year!

As Twink says the water pump went on mine the first night of ownership(i personally think the previous owner traded it in thinking it had popped a head gasket) but the replacement you get from ford is metal impellored. This i highly irrelevant seeing as your looking at dervs though

had a mk1 v6 mondeo, the plastic impeller breaks off this is true and if you dont notice it the head gaskets go quickly, i currently have a 52 plate mondeo tdci, watch for split intercoolers, sticking egr valves causing stalling , and duel mass flywheels failing which are expensive, look in service history, mine is the 130 slightly more on road tax but very nice drive, great mid range 70 - 90 great, went from london to newcastle and back to peterborough with out the light coming on, had to stop as was tired lol think i would have made it on one tank so cant speak highly enough of them so far that its lol

I've had 2 of the diesels both really good economical and relaible however i've had a old Audi A4 Tdi for the last 7 months (currently 4 sale) and i prefer that even though it's done twice the mileage of the Mondeo's i had it drives better and feels nicer

Brought the wife a new car so i'm hoping to run her Zafria Diesel instead.

the turby derv models are suprisingly swift. everyone i know who has one really likes them, never had any trouble with them and i must admit they are a nice drive. Dont know what it is about fords but you get in one and its like youve owned it all ur life. They just feel 'right'. Get a test drive in one, im sure you'll like it

Mates got a 58 diesel estate that I can say is one of the most horrible cars I have ever been a passenger in (I don't suffer from any form of travel sickness but it turns me up), it could be the way he drives i suppose but I can't wait to get out of the bloody thing.

My old daily driver was an ST24 4door, kept it for over 6 years, other than the water pump issues already mentioned, the only fault I had was a mullered diff (my fault, too many hard launches in it!!) otherwise faultless.

ive got a early mk3 oil burner (Tddi not tdci) only real problem is the dual mass flywheels but only if they have been abused or used as taxis, mine has 170 odd on the clock and needs doing now but thats not too bad imho. only other prob i had was a water pump which was a piece of p!ss to change and cheap too at 70 quid. i get 450 odd to a tank but it does get thrashed well into 3 figures most days. all in all i would recommend one as they are cheap reliable and reasonably nippy.
