When i connect the battery cable to the battery the fuses blows!

If i disconnect the head lights from the loom then fuses dont blow!

Is there something wrong with the head lights?

Thanks

if the fusebox is the same design as a mk3 capri and sits on top of the inner wing at the back and has wires going down underneath it behind the dash, this is where i had several wires melted together causing all sorts of lighting problems

Wheres the brown wire you have looped and going back into the loom going to?? also see the un insulated connectors on your sidelight could they be touching the bowl retaining spring and earthing out ??? just a thought but have you got any insulated terminals

I think your right there mate, get some insulated terminals or reverse the two wires, it dont matter if the earth terminal shorts out on the spring!

My old escort blew fuses because of the sidelight wires, they were just like yours and earthed on the bowl, i bent them slightly and taped them up good and proper, that sorted it for me

Having the live going straight to earth might cause a few problems

I just changed the bottom terminal for a insulated one.

I had a little peep, there are 2 brown wires in total,if i look in the wheel arch 1 of them goes to the indicator.

Usually on a mk2 the white is main beam, yellow dip beam sidelight if i remember is a grey with a trace possibly depending on the side of car and indicator is green but not 100%. best thing to do is get a basic test light and start from basics, put the clip from test light on a live on battery and check your earths are good. then change it to the earth and turn on each circuit one at a time and connect as you go, wiring is not hard just bit of patience and time and all will come right in the end

the outer casing is insulated from the headlamp bowl mate so shouldn't make any difference.

As for the fault........ sounds like you do need to bell it all out, it does sound like theres a short somewhere in the headlamp circuit.

Like others had said, get yourself a test light or multimeter and with a bit of time and patience your suss it out.

i put it down to the bare connectors and possibly a wire wrong somewhere, the 7" lamp assembly has been used for more yrs than enough and dont think its an issue, patience and nice cuppa will have it sorted soon

The bowl sits on a rubber thing yes but screws touch the bowl and body of car...

I have the last of the fuses in the car lol so only 1 test today...fire it up?

No m8 you dont understand, the bulb sits in a rubber grommit, the sidelight bulb holder sits in the grommit in the glass headlamp bowl.

Thats what i ment!

Going a bit off topic here anyways mate, if you have insulated the terminals then the problem shouldn't be there.

If it does blow that last fuse then its something else.

You could try and test the headlamps with them hanging out as they are. This would confirm if the connectors were at fault, if it still blows. the fault is elsewhere.

I fixed it  then i blow other fuse so i changed the other headlight bottom terminal and found a 16A fuse and used it for testing and all is good now :thumbsup:

Thanks guys, your always there for me when i have electrical issues

welldone m8, get the proper fuse in there though. Be careful using a higher rated fuse, sometimes the wire will melt before the fuse LOL

lol which is why my rear light cluster on the capri melted and almost caught alight once, luckily i smelt it burning pulled over and ripped the fuse out (which was extremely hot but hadnt blown!)

luckily i caught it when i did and i had a spare back light :D
