I bought a modern car last week, Sorry

It's a Lexus IS200, nice and cheap off ebay, used it for the last few days, but as it's got no service history I thought I'd change the cam belt just as a matter of course, The recomended interval is 100,000 miles or 6 years and it's done 89,000.

This is what I found when I removed the cover

Yes it is supposed to be twice as wide!

The tensioner pully was buggered, and was trying to throw the belt off, it's been rubbing on the guard which by the looks of things is the only reason it's stopped on! all that muck is what's left of the other half of the belt.

So am I lucky or what?

I went to turn over an ice cream van on a test drive (don't ask) and the cam belt went. Found it on the floor under the van. I walked away.......
