i have exhaust anifold on my mk1 escort like the one below and every week or so have to piss about with it cos it starts blowing and thebottem part slips down now im thinking of welding it so this dont happen any more is this a good idea is it in 3 parts for a reason or any ideas cos its pissing me of now

i would say once in place just tighten the clamps up then put a couple of spot welds at the join. just make it easy incase u need grind off the spot weld 2 remove it for ne reason.

Good luck let the force be with you lol we ended up drilling some holes around it and putting self tapping screws in to stop it form moving.

you could weld a couple of tabs either side of the join and tie the two sections together with lockwire.

 

Good idea. Or you could use a spring :thumbsup:

there all the same , i thought it was in pieces so it would fit in the hole but i can get mine in and out ok , so weld it . took mine off and put a janny on :D

Bolt it all to a spare head and weld it all around, done it to mine after getting fed up having to reassemble it all the time, when its welded you can still get it in place around the steering column but will be awkward if you still have the servo tower on.

A tip I think really works on CF exhausts (although yours looks like a pinto) is to make a strap that goes from the manifold across to one of the bell housing bolts. - Peco used to do this which is where I stole this idea from. I wouldn't run a crossflow without one now. It stops the manifolds falling appart at ALL the welds - it may solve this problem too... :thumbsup:
