First i need a Mask, but i will need to wear my glasses to see what im doing so what i am asking is, has anyone used a mask with glasses before?? Is there plenty of room?? Can anyone recommend a good mask bearing this in mind?? Thanks G
Slammed Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 hello mate, i would recommend the mask i have bought in my project thread, it is from machine mart, and cost 80 pounds and is worth every penny, it is the auto darkening type
mk1mexico Posted February 19, 2009 Author Report Posted February 19, 2009 Plenty of room internally for my specs?? I do have a massive head also.

V8ian Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Buy the best you can afford, you only get one pair of eyes, look after them!!! I have a Speedglas headset, Light, and small enough to get into tight spaces, in fact I have 2 for some, reason my son bought one too,
ban1216 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Cant say how much help the auto darkening masks are for a learner it really does save a lot of cursing when you run a aloverly weld only to find it missed the seam

Speedglas all the way
Mick The Cabbie Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I've got a Sealy auto darkening mask. Cost approx £100 3 or 4 years ago. Works a treat. I wouldn't pay any less for one. And avoid any of the cheap non descript rubbish thats out there. As has been said already, you only get one pair of eyes
MG-Ford Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 I have had a few and like the others say buy the best you can. Also check the pickup distance, most of the cheap ones are shite and will only pickup the arc in close proximity. So when you have your arm stretched up inside a wheel arch welding and there is no enough room to get the mask fully in there you will notice the screen wont darken. This is not much of an issue for small bits, but use it for any amount of time and "YO GOT ARC-EYE BABY", and anyone who has had this will tell you it aint pleasant. Also the reaction time, Auto darkening ones are usually stamped all over with the details, of course the quicker the reaction time the more you will pay.
Trevmk3 Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 you should be alrite with your glasses on with most screens you can get, but if unsure go to a welding suppiers first and try one with your glasses on
Durham Fiesta Posted February 21, 2009 Report Posted February 21, 2009 the one i have ,you can wear safety spec's under it with plenty of room
