Does anyone have any ideas which might shed a bit of light on this.

my mk2 escort won't start. Tried everything i can think of, checked points, new distributor, new leads, new battery, cleaned and set plugs, starter motor is fine.

It turns over, isnt sluggish, but won't quite catch and fire up. It was fine one day then next day just won't fire. It's properly doing me head and giving me a half hour walk to work which isn't pleasant. :(

Anyone any ideas or had similar problem? Could it be the coil??

cheers all

hadn't thought of any of those! How can I test the plugs? If it's not getting fuel up is right to assume it's the fuel pump, if that's not a stupid question??

thanks for your help.

If the carb as pulled some crap through you my have blocked jets so you will have fuel at the pump but none getting past the carb take the filter off opertate the throttle linkage and see if any fuel is going past the choke butterfly . if you see fuel then you know it is not a fuel issue

Where abouts are you based roughly? Maybe one of us from here could pop round & sort it out

If there's no spark, get a bit of wire and run it from the positive terminal on the battery to the positive terminal on the ignition coil and see if it goes then. If it does, then either the starter motor relay or the ballast resistor is FUBAR.

you sure you're timing isnt 180degrees out?

you can time it up properly... just 180degrees out and it wont start :).

also are the HT leads connected in the right order? 1-3-2-4

and... crank her over a few times and then go to the carb and pull the throttle cable a few times with your head looking down to the butterfly and see if theres fuel coming out.

jets are easy to dismantle and clean if its a weber carb :)
