Daggle Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Ok, so I have just got back into modelling and need some advice. Has anyone got tips on Airbrushing, what to buy, how to use it? I have just completed my first model, but realise that the overall model would look a lot better if I could airbrush the body of the model rather then hand paint it with a brush, it would get rid of the brush marks. What do you guys that build these models use? How much does it cost to get a basic Airbrush set up? Hope you guys can help me out, cheers
hotrodholty Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 halford do an airbrush kit mate, i use normal aerosols and primer and get a good finish, if you use brushes you can always rub the paint down very lightly with 1200 wet and dry and lose the brushmarks, for fine details like the window rubbers and black trim i cheat and use a perminant marker, works a treat if you get a fine one
Daggle Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 Ok, can you use normal model paints in those airbrush kits? I have read that some of them need to be thinned down? What sort of thinners do you use? I have got a job lot of Humbrol Enamel paints in the colours that I need, oh its not a OSF that I am doing first, gone back to my childhood and am doing a Spitfire first, then get good and then I will move onto cars, then I can post them up here, once I get a bit better. The first Spit that I did is a bit patchy on the paint front

hotrodholty Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Cheers, I think its going to have to be a case of trial and error just brush them mate and claim they are rat look models be carefull with the thinners if the cars are plastic they go very soft very fast
Daggle Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 Cheers Bud, give me a few months and I wil post the pics up
mk1super Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 If i were you i'd use a plastic primer and regular car paint from Halfords. It did no harm to the chevy truck i built. I looked into it and was all for it till i seen the prices Not cheap but if your serious about moddling then go for it Ebay had a complete set up for around 180 quid i think.
DAZZA Posted March 13, 2009 Report Posted March 13, 2009 Used a few airbrushes, but regardless, they spat. Well prepped body with 600, build up from a light dusting, knock it back with some 1000 then a wet top coat, all with halfords shelved stocked paints, lovely pressure and coverage Must have modded and painted in excess of 400 models over the years, no complaints. These carry the halfords colours
Daggle Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 Cheers Dazza, might have a pop at using aerosols, I see that Humbrol do some, Im not sure if I can get the right shade in Halfords colours
