Can someone explain something to me?

I lent a car of mine to one of my sons (Baz105e) and he was using it under his own fully comp insurance policy which he has on a car of his. While using it he was in collision with another vehicle, and after a bit of time and letter writing his insurance admitted liability and paid out for the repairs to the other vehicle.

My insurance Company wrote to me early on, and I reported to them that I was not driving, told them who was, and that any claim would be made under his policy, not my own.

So far so good.

My insurance Company wrote to me a while ago, and I spoke to them towards the end of last week, saying that they wanted to know his insurance details, policy number vehicle registration number etc etc, as it would be an offence for me to let him use my vehicle without valid insurance. I have written to them telling them that he was insured, and spoke to them last week, and advised them that I would obtain the details of his current policy, and his Insurance Company name.

My insurance Company have written to me today saying that (and I quote) "Unfortunately our underwriting criteria has changed this year and I am unable to renew your insurance with us. Your cover with Admiral ends on 7/4/09 at 00:01 hours."

wtf!! Can anyone explain?

Best ask them to explain. Unfortunately they have the right to do this and if they think you have increased as a risk then perhaps they don't want your business anymore. Something similar happened to a friend of mine after an an accident with his daughters horse truck. The other downer is you have to declare that you've had insurance declined when you start looking for your next insurer.

my insurance cancelled mine after i had been in a collision, trouble is they cancelled it for the day before i had the collision so i was basically left up poo river with a bill for £16000 from the other blokes insurance  fooking twats :evil::evil: got out of paying it though

Basically if he has a fully comp insurance cover - some allow you to drive other cars under third party only cover (some insurers are starting to withdraw this so worth checking)

Because your son was driving your car with your permission the cover should be with your sons insurance under a third party risk and not yours. Your insurers should have nothing to do with it. Your son claims under his policy, they pay for the TP repairs and you have to foot the bill on your own repairs.

Your insurance has probably refused to renew because you have declared your son uses your car (no matter how innocent) insurers do not like this. Some people will insure there car (dad) for son to drive but never drive the car - it's called fronting and if the insurers find out your policy is void - so watch out.

Problem you have now is if you try and get insurance elsewhere you have to declare you have been refused cover on renewal (it's on the MIAFTA database so no getting away from it)

Basically you need to contact your insurers and ask them to put there reasons in writing to you and then if you dispute there reasons contact the ombudsman and tell your insurers you intend to do this...

Exactly the scenario, his insurance policy entitles him to drive my car under his own policy, his insurance paid out for the damage, nothing to do with my insurance company.

Told my new insurers and it made no difference to them at all. Insurance starts when the Admiral policy finishes.

I think I will get the evidence of his insurance policy, send it to Admiral, and then tell them they can stick their insurance anyway, it's their loss, not mine.

Did his insurance pay for the damage to your car too or just the other parties?

What happened was that he was towing a trailer and a SAAB was overtaking, and Baz pulled out into his lane. The rear corner of the trailer trailer hit his bumper, and when he braked it pulled his front bumper off. No damage to my car or the trailer.
