hope this threads ok here? i wanted to fit some decent speakers in the capri on the rear parcel shelf without drilling into the shelf itself, so heres what i did and what i used..

pic 1 the parts

pic 2 , i got hold of some vw golf adapter rings to sit the speakers in but they werent deep enough so i had to make up sone 10mm nylon spacers,

so when put together they look like this

and the speaker bottom now has clearence due to the spacers.

as you can see im now left with a gap to fill, i could order some proper spacer rings off ebay but i cant be arsed waiting so i used some flexible caravan window seal rubber and wrapped it round and supaglued the ends together ,

with the rubber nicely in place i gave it a wipe with rubber and vinyl wipe to blend it in nicely

i will fit them to the rear shelf with double sided tape so i wont have to drill any holes at all.

i just hope they sound good enough for me

thanks to savvi for speaker reccomendation

Ive mounted speakers a couple of different ways in my escort previously. neither of which has involved parcel shelf cutting.

What is behind the back seat? What I mean is is there a solid bulkhead or is there just a peice of limp cardboard? If its a peice of board, ive replaced that with a peice of MDF in the past and mounted speakers in that so they face 'through' the seats. Escort seats are just a frame and a bit of fabric so that worked ok.

Ive made boxes velcro'd them under the front seats.

And I have also mounted a pair of 6x9's under the rear parcel shelf by cutting them unto a flat peice of MDF and popping that up under the shelf. Never cut the shelf, but you could still hear them ok

Just a few thoughts and suggestions :)

thanks for that but ive explored every avenue, the petrol tank sits directly under my parcel shelf so thats not an option, nothin will fitunder the seats either, what i really want is someone to build me a custom set up in the boot.

I tried to warn you

They do a similar collar for 6x9's

It won't help with the spacers and caravan strip, try making solid spacers from Mdf and seal them so it throws the sounds up and out !!!

It may also help if you position them so they face the front rather then up to the roof lining.

You will waste your money on a boot build cos the petrol tank will deaden the sound ............ however this under the seat would help, it will give you all the base you need

For Not using 6x9's !!!!

Solid spacers might help.

The sub box really will help and it's very small with built in Amp, i fitted one in the 1st Aid box holder in the parcel tray of a Merc Clk320 on Friday, after i had fitted £450 worth of speakers as it didn't have enough base !!

I removed my rear door cards and made MDF replacements, cut holes for 6x9's and then covered the MDF panel in black vinyl, looks ok

And they sound...............well, In hindsight it was a waste of time cos I can only use the stereo when sitting in traffic coz the sound of the twin webers and the 2 1/4" single box exhaust drowns them out totally

do you know ive been thinking of this in my capri there are only a few places to put speakers where you dont have to cut door cards one i thought of was the kick panels where your feet go sorry if this has been said but only read the seccond page
