vibrating_Cake Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 as title says... did any 1600 mk3 capper come with a type 9 (5 speed) gearbox. As im deciding on wether to replace my diff with a 1.6's diff to bring the gearing down a little.... but if i do that my speedo will be rather innacurate? so, did any 1600 cappers run a type 9 box, so i can get a correct sized speedo drive so my speedo stays correct with the 1600 diff?
bortaf Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 1.6 lasers did but no idea if they ran the same diff as a 4speed car? somone will know in a while
Fishtailparka Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 1600 lasers had a five speed and a 3.7 (ish cos I can't remember exactly) diff.
vibrating_Cake Posted March 23, 2009 Author Report Posted March 23, 2009 3.7 is a lot better than a 3.44 though!!! i hate tracking it and only using 4th when im hitting triple figures on the speedo!!!!!!!

Yes they come with the type 9 5 speed box. 2L ratio is 3.44:1, 1.6L ratio is 3.77:1. With a 1.6L diff, you'll be doing around 3300RPM @ true 70MPH. It does improve acceleration and if the 36MPG I got out of mine is anything to go by, it doesn't harm fuel economy at all.
