GJUK Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Hello. I have a mk1 escort and I need some advice. I have agreed to have the car 'finished' by a local garage as it is currently in bits, they've quoted me ~£2k to finish the car, with paint. I've managed to find some mexico wings and although they're used, they're quite good. Well for the money they are. Now I'm paranoid about rust, I want the car to be looking fantastic not just for 6 months (for rust to then start bubbling through) but for a good few years, considering the money I'm spending I think thats fair? So I've got these two wings which I've started to strop down, found bits of rust, treated them and then etch primed themas best I can. I'm jsut 'worried' that I've missed bits and/or the guy that will do the car for me will miss bits. How long would you expect a new paint job to last on your car. Would you normally get a warranty or epxected period which it should last? I've worked myself up over this car and sometimes I wonder if it would be easier to sell it or finish it myself. meh. Jon
Duke3s Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 its a tricky one mate. i got mine stripped and repainted nearly 3 years ago now and a few things are starting to show. Alas, i cant keep it under cover so that hasnt helped i guess. But i hoped it would of been "pristine" for longer. Now it sounds like you have done the right thing but im no expert on panel prep. Could u get it stripped and dipped? that should get everything!!!
Mexico Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 ive had the 100e on the road since xmas last year, and you just cannot help keeping the paint pristine with road dust, stone chips ect. All comes down to how much care you give the car and where it is kept (moisture free garage or under a tree lol)
