fostersice Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 hi guy need help been offered a cosworth 4x4 enging complete less sump can i run this in a mk2 rs2000? i was going to have a pinto built to 2.1 using my new twin 45s but this cosworth lump is cheaper then the rebuild of the pinto. can i use the engine? can i still use the turbo with the twin 45s ? the engine was runnin 330bhp when taken out of the car. do i use a 2wd cosworth sump or get a rs2000 sump? thanks guys
dssean Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 i dont think its possible to use the carbs for the turbo setup. 1 the carbs are used through vaccum and a turbo engine will runpressure when on boost. 2 you would need an air box to connect the carbs up to the turbo and 3 you'll need to comletely change the wiring you'll need to have a cossie ecu and loom and you'll have to have a cossie sump as the rs2000 hasn't got an oil return fotr the turbo.(although you could weld one on.) apart from that its pretty straight forward
mk2 escy ron Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 carbs with turbo is a no no and as above with the sump cos the cossie one also has a spray bar i believe
fastferretzetecmk1 Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 The spray bar is to cool the base of the pistons, ive fitted an RS200 sump to a YB block, had to tig weld a turbo return pipe in to the side, i ran an extra oil cooler to get a bit more oil in to the engine,
kevmk2 Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 You can run Jenvey throttle bodies with a turbo though
5hane Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 You can run Jenvey throttle bodies with a turbo though there brining out a plenum for them too - and there BIG money (IIRC) (look the sex tho ) couldnt you also use 152 weber 45 carbs? (esprit turbo IIRC) BUT- stick with the standard injecton setup - i doubt ou would gain anything, proably loose performance and be £400+ down.. (unless your 45's are 152's - still dont bother )

fostersice Posted April 20, 2009 Author Report Posted April 20, 2009 these cost me juat over £1000 complete as i was going to build the pinto stage 5 but had someone say about cosworth on carbs that got me thinking
fostersice Posted April 20, 2009 Author Report Posted April 20, 2009 what, stage 5? there a engine builds in grays essex the does a pinto rebuild and you can have standard all the way upto stage4 then stage 5 is abt bolt kit? complete build giving me a 190bhp pinto engine will cost me £1700 plus the twin 45s and i still need to get geatbox, sump and pick up so do i stick to pinto or just go cossie which means sell the twin 45s and go cosworth and ecu i didnt really want to go ecu just wanted to stick with the carbs which looks like i would have to go pinto ??
Mr Sam Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 have you considered NA cosworth?? then you can use the carbs on the cossie,,,probably the most expensive option tho as you'd have to change all the internals to run higher comp the cossie you have been offered has it any proof of power and how long its been built as you could end up getting it all going and discover a 6 months down the line you need a re-build
fostersice Posted April 20, 2009 Author Report Posted April 20, 2009 theres my problem £1000 for a cosworth engine plus wiring ecu and what ever else i may need to fit then i could end up with a donky or spend £1700 on a brand new built engine with photos and bills of proof of whats been done giving me good power and useing the new twin 45s i got? what to do.?
