jimbo Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Bugger!! Was having a great afternoon driving home form my course in the Capri, and when I popped into a shop scratched the door of this lady's jag. (Had to be a f!@*ing Jag ). So I gave her my details and all that, and she's says she better speak to her husband etc. Anyhow, what I'm wondering is how much this is likely to set me back. The scratch is about an inch long and went down through the a lacquer layer (unsurprisingly it was a metallic finish) it looked a little white around the edge, but don't really think that it went down to the primer. The panel wasn't in anyway dented. Anyone know how much I'm looking at for someone to go out to them and do a scratch repair (I assume that a bodyshop would be a bit OTT)? Cheers, Jim PS I wouldn't feel so pi55ed about this if she hadn't been parked over the line PPS If anyone does this for a living and is near Bedford, would you do a deal for a fellow OSF member

jimbo Posted April 22, 2009 Author Report Posted April 22, 2009 Cheers, I'll look 'em up...... I'm sure that this'll resolve itself soon enough. I'm just in a bad mood right now, because of my own stupidity, and I guess I'm looking for a ball park figure to try and help me accept my financial fate, and let me get on with the rest of my evening....... Normally when I have a scratch to deal with it involves a blob of T-cut and maybe a tube of repair paint...........that's one of the benefits of our older cars....
FredTransit Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Let's hope they don't try to take you for a ride, and go on about a whole panel paint ect. I know this isn't Kosher but don't give them your insurance details. They could just see it as a blank cheque, and go for a body shop repair and a courtesy car, who knows? Sorry to be negative but some people are like that.

Sorry to be negative but some people are like that. Im sorry but if someone scratched my car then I wouldn't be happy with being palmed off with a scratch repair from what I have seen then you can still see the scratch after it has been 'touched up'. If it was me, then I would want a proper job done ......... How many ppl would be saying something similar on here if the boot was on the other foot and someone had scratched your car, I bet some ppl would even put in a claim for compensation for mental anguish

FredTransit Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Well TBH it's like this, i have had many a scratch over the years, and done one myself. The ones that have been done to my vans I did not have the luxury to discuss, they just went without a trace. I once had to squeeze past a car (that wasn't there when I went in) that shouldn't have even been in a loading bay (signs up saying service bay, no parking). I left my number (as I thought the same as you just said, I wouldn't like it) and the driver of (coincidentally) the jag went to town. Saying it needed a new wing and he would need a replacement car whilst it was in the paint shop. At that point I said if he thought he had a case, to take me to court. That was the last I ever heard about it. Insurance wasn't an issue as not only was the car driver not allowed in the service area, it was private land and at that time I had no obligation to give my insurance details.
jimbo Posted April 23, 2009 Author Report Posted April 23, 2009 Not quite the reassuring statements I was looking for....... Glad I didn't come back on here last night.....I might not have got to sleep..... I've been thinking about this. Basically I had a couple of minor prangs that were my fault in my earlier driving years. I was told either directly not to worry about it i.e "don't worry mate. It's a company car and I was checking out the hottie as well......" Or on the other two occasions, I left my details (cos I'm honest like that). One I never heard from, the other rang me up to thanks me for my honesty, and that they'd repair it themselves......I figure I'm due a claim...... Just trying to figure whether it'll be an insurance job or whether I stump up the cost myself. Guess I won't know either way until they get in touch......
Admin Mk2Jo Posted April 23, 2009 Admin Report Posted April 23, 2009 How did you manage such a deep scratch just popping into the shop? I would phone the doris and ask her politely if she could get a quote for the repair before organising it on her insurance policy as you would really like to try to pay for it rather than go through insurance as you don't want to lose your NCB Just be really polite and creepy and she may well feel sorry for you and get an estimate from a bodyshop before taking it further Then you can make the decision on how you go forward Don't lose sleep over it mate

Not like the sensible shape of my old escort!! I didn't get her details (I know, I know!!! ) When she said her husband would deal with it, I just gave her my name and number and told her to get him to give me a ring so we could sort it out. Hopefully he'll ring me before his insurance company..... Cheers Jo.....I won't lose any sleep over it. But I will be losing sleep over my exam tomorrow.......Which reminds me, I better get back to revising......
FredTransit Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 No word yet then? Maybe you have got away with it.
