louie bagel Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 i dont normally rant but i'm at my wits end i no this is a long one but please bear with me any advice on the following would be appreciated!! me and the wife live in a 2 bedroom house with no gas, and we dont use our eco7. We changed our electric company from N-power to Eon in september last year because they we're offering a fixed price rate that was less then N-power, when we came back from our holiday the first week in febuary 09 we had our first quarterly bill (sept-jan) the total was aprox £700 , i called and said to them that the amout must be incorrect as we had never had a bill like it before, an engineer came out and said the time switch was faulty and we was being charged on the wrong rate, they changed the time switch and said they would send out a revalued bill. thank fook for that we thought. heard nothing untill the end of march when our second quarterley bill came through including the previous quarter's amount, this total was almost £1300 called again and said this cannot be correct have they taken into account the previous faulty timer? the following week we got a letter saying they had made a mistake and would send out the correct bill, again we thought thank god for that. the bill came on tuesday for £1100,this is for 6mths, so out of interest i got out our bill for july 07 - july 08 with N-power the total for 12mths use was £530, now to me thats alot of difference!!! called eon and said the difference between our previous 12mths bill compared to there 6mth bill, the advisor agreed that it was deffinatly not right and we would be contacted to discuss the issue. spoke to a doris today who says the amount is correct there must be something in our house causing the high use, every electrical appliance is the same as the previous year , and its a strange coincedence that the fault has only occured since joining eon, sorry to go on but i would really like some advise about this cos that alot of money that i cant afford to shell out in one go,
Trevmk3 Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 i cant offer any advice but i feel for you mate we had the same with our gas bill but that was very wrong, wanted £6000+ or something daft
Admin Mk2Jo Posted April 23, 2009 Admin Report Posted April 23, 2009 Firstly, I reckon you need to seek some legal advice Secondly, there is a monitor that you can buy (some electric companies will loan you one - my friend borrowed one from her electricity supplier for a month to monitor what the consumption was for each appliance). Here is the type of thing I mean: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0409111086 Good luck mate
Trevmk3 Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 also you could go to the citzens advice to see what they think you can do (anyone would think im being payed by them to plug it)
FredTransit Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 I would say CAB too, and contact the body that regulates Electricity. Failing that, try Watchdog or even the Sun.
louie bagel Posted April 23, 2009 Author Report Posted April 23, 2009 right i have conduted an experiment, i took a meter reading at 7pm 1) 72775.31 2) 28436.32 3) 1211.63 just took another reading so its been an hour 1) 72775.31 2) 28437.04 3) 1212.35 the appliances that are on t.v bedroom tv on standby sky box 2 small freezers fridge freezer freeview on standby glade plug in wii on standby and door bell the lights are off, this in my opinion is the average use for day time, give or take the extra use i.e hoover. can someone tell me how much electric i have used going by the meter reading?
YOUNGY Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Have they got your readings the correct way round i.e is the high reading roughly the same as the one on your meter and the low reading roughly the same, when e.o.n changed our meter a few years ago they got the readings round the wrong way and that doubled our bill, worth a look if not contact the ombudsman to query this.
BIGKEV Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Louie - If I was you mate - I would tell them to go and Fook themselves mate - Thats clearly not right and tell them to sort it out or you will sue them for something( think of a fancy long word)
Mr Sam Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 we have a small field with an electricity supply for electric fence and for when i can be arsed to do work on the anglia we got a bill for £300 a quarter took a reading and sent it to them and they wouldnt believe us so they sent someone out to read the meter.......the bill was then £3.70 we had the same problem with the gas got quoted £100+ so insisted they came out (our house is heated by a log burner which also heats the radiators, so the gas is never actually used)....that then came to 90 summin pence sounds like youve allready had someone out to read the meter if not make sure thay are charging you on your meter reading and not a guestimate as to what youve been using in the past and of course go green, switch things off use energy saver bulbs etc hope you get it down mate
Mr Sam Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 ( think of a fancy long word) beingabunchofwankers
louie bagel Posted April 23, 2009 Author Report Posted April 23, 2009 well i'm monitoring my meter at the moment to see what its doing, already told them i'm not gonna pay it cos it cant be right , not spending holiday/osf money on a scam , read loads of bad reviews about eon overcharging today, wish i knew this before the wife changed us over
FredTransit Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Is there any chance of you changing again? They really could go fook emselves then!

SmokeEm Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 I had similar problem with my electric (From British Gas) - what they did was mix up the night & day meter readings. My bill went from £700 to £128 once it was sorted. I rang their customer complaints line and they were very good.

I wouldn't suggest it to avoid all payments, but this bill is taking the piss!
