andy a Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Ok, so I've brought a facelift Mk1 Capri 2000 GT, all original but needing some work, first plan was to get rid of the V4 and drop in a 3.0 Essex, then I got it home and thought it best to leave the 2 litre in as its all original, then I decided to go ahead with the V6, then the V4..... You know what I mean, what would you do, original or add the 2 extra pots
dogdish Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 Now don't get me wrong but.........do you live opposite me??? ***mod edit** I have the 1.6LS. Flippin heck.If you do pop over and knock on the door, cos i want to see this car asap!!! If i can help in any way just ask.Sadly,i have only just weighed in some 3 ltr parts. But my mate has loads of stuff for capris. If it isn't you then its a different yellow mk1!!!!!!!
andy a Posted May 9, 2009 Author Report Posted May 9, 2009 Yes, its mine, I've seen the LS sitting in the garage a few times, I reckon you've got the best view of it from the other side of the road, the closer you get the worse it looks I dont live there (family members house) but I'm always up there as we own the bit of land out the front and I spend most of my life trying to keep it tidy these days, if you see me over there pop over and have a look, you can usually tell when we're about, the kids tend to make enough noise. Managed to get it running yesterday (came with a full tank of leaded 4 star ) but its been standing in a garage for 16 years and it needs plenty of work, got the clutch freed off today and then the water pump packed in, ah well, add that to the long list of things to do...
trakevlyn Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 I would leave it with the V4 as there few and far between and a bit more interesting as every one seems to do the V6 conversion
caprinerd Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 to me it depends on what you really want to do with the finished car every day driver or just a weekend car , if its daily then swap it as the v4 aint the strongest engine in the world or the most economical but if you plan on useing it evry now and then weekends shows etc then leave it in place
andy a Posted May 9, 2009 Author Report Posted May 9, 2009 It wont be doing many miles (not for the next few years anyway, it'll take me that long to find the bits to do it), I had a 3.0 litre cologne kitted type thing in my head when I went hunting for a Mk1 to do, trouble is that although it needs work its so original (barring a few bits of trim and a pair of seats) that it does seam a shame to chop it about, so its time to get the bits together to do a proper job on it, ah well, looks like I need to find something else to use as a daily driver, anyone got a sensibly priced 2.8 special going?
dogdish Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Yes ok i'll pop over soon.Don't like just to walk over univited as i know how annoying it can be when you're trying to work on a car!! If you ever need a hand just ask as i can sometimes get stuck in front of this pc and never move LOL. Steve who runs our little club rang last night and i told him about it.He said that its getting very rare now as most were either converted to V6s or ohc.Bit like the old stags. But personally i would go for leaving it alone.Do what i am gonna do and get another one to rip about! Cheers MarkH.
mk1v4 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 i had the same problem 3 years ago but kept the v4 and she runs like a dream and like the other guy said they are getting rare so money wise it may be best to keep it a v4 ps if you need any v4 advice pm me
