andy a Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Looks like a new way of trying to bump up the sale price of your old Ford, beats getting your mates to bid on them on Feebay... http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C88577/
Mr Sam Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 i think he needs emailing some abuse for even considering that
tt capri Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 If i understand the stupid system right , you have to own the car for a certain amount of time before you get this scrappage allowance , so basically it's only worth that price to him , is that the way it works ?
Messenjah Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 yes fortunately because of the rule about having to own the car for 12 months chancers like this will probably fail to get any takers it shouldnt affect the price of older cars too much because of that rule
andy a Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 I think the point is that although its only worth 2 grand to him against a new car from a dealers people like him will try to use it as a lever to price cars up, I'm not saying that the car is or isn't worth what he's asking for it, thats his choice, but his take is obviously that he's buying a new car (I cant see for one minute that he's replacing the Cortina as a daily as it hasn't got enough miles on it) so buy it at that price or it gets scrapped, a true enthusiast... The trouble is that as old Fords have gained in popularity as has the internet people now think they can hold others to ransome pricewise, its also the reason that 2.8i Capri's especially are thinning out in numbers so quickly, as anyone who fails to sell one at a silly price decides its worth more in parts and breaks it, often chucking half of it away... As to the effect the scrappage scheme could have...http://pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=19961
bortaf Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Makes a change from "buy this car or it gets banger raced" quite refreshing actually
Ken B Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 There been a lot of forum talk of the scrappge scheme, about the goods the bads etc. Whilst that is a whole subject done to death elsewhere and not worth going into again, i think the main pi55 off point for me is the governement is using our money to prop up / kick start an over subscribed industry in the first place. That where our critism should be aimed at. They aint done sweet FA for the back bone industry of Britian, transport. As long as everyone has nice cars to ride in and huge debt(read loans for new cars) to worry about they're happy.
