Vacum advance pipe

Hi guys just a quick question i have been told that if you disconnect the vacum advance pipe you get better performance but you get poor running on idle? is this a myth as i have never tried it?

if the ignition is that far advanced then you remove the vacume. You cant just remove it it and expect more power!
