Elwood Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 hi, i'm new to old cars, just bought an 81 capri ghia auto 2.0 pinto, i'm looking for tips, had a couple of problems already, nothing major, old cars seem to be really easy to fix, but had a problem starting it today, buzzing and then burning earth sleeving, took the starter motor off and something fell inside the bell housing, it must have been wedged in there preventing the engine turning, it rattles around in there now but the car works, my friend said i need to take the gearbox off and check the torque converter and flexi plate, i'm not sure how to do it and am too skint for a mechanic, and my old haynes is a bit vague, just wondering if I get whatever it is out, without checking this stuff out, will it be too much of a risk? also, does anyone know if I can fit a manual type 9 5 speed gearbox to it without too much trouble? any help appreciated. Thanks, Elwood
