tay14 Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 after 8 months of trouble free driving on my way home yesterday my mk2 escorts temp gauge started to rise to max,all the hoses were hot top, bottom, all heater hose and the cars heater was blowing warm but the radiator cap was stone cold.i let the car cool down at home took the cap off to check the water the level was spot on,theres no leaks any where and the thermostat works fine. any ideas? cheers as i was going to the yorkshire meet today.
stevepeanut Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 I'm having the same problem with my x flow its gets so hot. So far I have replaced the thermostat, put on a new radiator and fitted an electric fan kit. Yours sounds different though, to just suddenly happen if its been fine before. Maybe the water pump has failed? or an air lock Have you tried running it again since it overheated?
countrybumpkin Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 get a new rad cap sounds like its not holding pressure
tay14 Posted May 31, 2009 Author Report Posted May 31, 2009 the cap is a new one about a month old ,ive just had all the hoses off and flushed the engine and rad both ok,the water pump is working.also just done a compresion test thats spot on too.got the car warming up know running spot on.
