5hane Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 i need help lol, what is the best way of taking off the white putty kind of stuff thats used with underseal? the only way ive managed to get rid of it is with a chisil (10mm wide GRR) and a hammer. fine for my chassi rails - not for my inner wing's. so any one got any idears? i keep putting thinners on but it dont seem to be soaking it ? cheers ps. sorry, im not sure what its called - ill get a pic tommorow
LEONMEX Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 took all my underseal & seam sealer off my escort with a wire brush on a drill then cleaned it up with thinners.
gpcmatric Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 And watch your pinkies! as they have a bit of a kick.
james1700 Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 and wear goggles the bristles hurt when in your arm i dont even want to think of the pain when one gets fired in your eye
Slammed Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 instead of goggles, try to invest in a ful face mask for 15 quid, it may save your face, best to have a lot of protection so dont skimp on it all looking foward to the pics
Retro-gone. Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 good advice there young gav and im shocked no-one else suggested a full face visor! dont even attempt using a wire wheel in a drill without complete face protection or you may end up in surgery as did my mates dad! the brass wheel worked loose (as they sometimes do if the chuck is worn on your drill) and literally opened up the side of his face
TwoLitrePinto Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 yeh i used a big wire wheel on a angle grinder, takes it straight off to clean metal, you do get bits of wire flyin off now and again tho stabbing u in various places!
Smudger105e Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 I think Baz105e has a picture of what one of these did to him...
Twinkle Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 instead of goggles, try to invest in a ful face mask for 15 quid, it may save your face, best to have a lot of protection so dont skimp on it all looking foward to the pics definatly go for a full face mask and a decent pair of thick welders gauntlets! mine kicked back and hit me on the chin and ran up to my forehead! yes it hurt, only reason it didnt take it back to bone was that the wheel got caught in my gloves and was slowing down! went out and bought a full face that afternoon. also had a wire detatch hit me in the forehead go through the skin and the end hit the bone and bent round beneath the skin to 90 degrees, had to get it out with a pair of pliers!!
