quickrack Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 How do I connect up the 5 wires from the regulator to convert to alternator. Cos every description I read talks about brown, brown/yellow and black wires. But 3 of my 5 are red!! Help??
escamino Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 I always thought it was two thick ones together, two thin ones together and the black is earthed. Maybe someone could confirm this?
sparkycapri Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 basicly the 2 fat ones are the charging ones into the loom to the battery one from alternator one to batteryand the 2 thin ones are the charge light one from alternator one to dash light/gauge
Savvi Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Thinks it's the Escort ? Not sure colours etc but the alternator has 2 large which go back to the battery and or starter (as long as they are all connected it will work), then the small wire goes back to the dash light, acts as an earth without the car running which brings the light on via an ignition feed on the other side of the bulb, then the alternator loses the earth so the light goes out ............... unless the alternator has a fault !!! If it is the escort you can plug a later engine loom, with alternator, in if you have one ?
