AdeV Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 This is my racing capri, when I bought her in 1997: A quick trip into the barriers later (before my 1st race) meant some hasty repairs & a respray at the local body shop. The result was this: I ran that car until mid 1999, when I handed her off to Dad (who turned her into that incredible beast you can see in another thread), & bought myself this ex-BTCC, formerly driven by Jeff Allam in the late '70s: Rather more sedately, this was my daily driver for a few months, about 2-3 years ago: She is -- or, rather, was -- incredibly straight, and with really minimal rusting (a touch on the bonnet, and the passenger door is just starting to go). Gutted, though, as I put her back away tonight (having taken those pix), I managed to ding the offside wing on the back of my bus So now I'll have to straighten that out, and treat her to the rust-removal & respray she deserves. £££, but she's worth it. In fact, she'll make a lovely restoration project for someone who likes the really fiddly bits - mechanics are all in good order, as is the body; but the interior is tired & needs refreshing, and there's a couple of decals missing; just detail work really.
Potter Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Love the Capris mate! Both look uber-hard!! And that's a really nice straight Granada.I'd have it off ya if I didn't live 2000 miles away
Daveyboy20 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Hi mate, I saw you racing the two black capris at Oulton Park, must have been about 7 years ago now, I have the photos still. I was speaking to a guy at the bodyshop we use at work (spraysystems) and told him I was painting my Capri matt black and he told me of a capri he sprayed matt black with a yellow stripe and I knew exactly which one it must've been! You still racing it?
AdeV Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Posted July 2, 2009 Hi mate, I saw you racing the two black capris at Oulton Park, must have been about 7 years ago now, I have the photos still. You still racing it? That'll be a full complement of "Yes"es then SpraySystems did the black/yellow job on mine after I stuffed it into the tyres at Knickerbrook, 2 days before my 1st race... they managed to repair the damage, filler it over so it was Capri-shaped again, and spray it, in less than 48hrs. I was well impressed... In fact, if you look at the 2nd pic, you can see their name in the yellow stripe, near the rear wing. Since then, I've always repainted the car myself; but when I come to do a road car, it'll be straight over to them.... in fact, it's good to know they're still there
