I'm not sure what jets i should buy for my 40's?

engine is standard excpt for the head - fr32 and adjustable vernier. im also running trumpets.

i failed the MOT on emmissions and it is running very rich. one was 4.5% allowed and i was 7.5% the other thing was 3 times allowed. the exhaust was blowing so i need to sort that too! not bad though for a practiacaly new engine.

will ring burtons to order in the morning - but would welcome advice

there is a bloke on ebay who runs a carb buisness in wales cant rember the name but go on ebay and find him get his number and ask him seems to know an awful lot about engine to carb set up and also very cheap (well ish)

what car is it - might not even have to conform to emissions test ? - Make sure the carbs are balanced correctly and the engine is hot before you test it - if needs be you cold temporarily wind the mixture screws out a bit just to lean it off ?. 40's always run rich at low RPM

got it through today - by the skin of teeth as they say - escort21 worked out the jetting sizes for me - you are right about leaning them off - massive smell of fuel though!

I would strongly recommend a decent set up at a rolling road.

A weak mixture or a rich one will potentially damage your new engine. I broke 7 out of 8 piston rings on one engine years ago which was too lean on the motorway.

It will probably cost about £100-120 but you'll be really pleased with the results and you'll know the engines safe.

All engines really need setting up as individuals, although you might get close using jets from similar spec engines, there's no substitute for letting an expert get their hands on it!

BTW are you running a standard fuel pump? If you're running an electric pump you need a fuel pressure regulator set at 3-4 psi - it might be why it smells of fuel.

found out why i had a fuel smell - lukily before i hd a REAL problem - the fuel return pipe was just hanging there - fuel pumping out all over my wing - lucky break i spotted it!

rolling road will be done soon - i am not ragging it but i am still having fueling issues! there seems to be no fuel in 5th gear - i may need to go to an electric pump as you suggest!
