over_head_cam Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I'm looking to buy a new one. I've got about 400 quid to spend, so I'm after some recommendations really
Savvi Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I buy most of my workshop equipment from these : http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/categ ... ccessories They normally have something for everyone good guarantee and have stores all over the country.
Jiffer Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 i must admit i got mine from machine mart and with £400 to spend the world should be your oyster, but i would play them off against BOC who sometimes seem to do some good deals best of luck
over_head_cam Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 I've been using a Clarke 100en from there for a while. It does the job but I need more power and flexibility. I'm still looking
Tom Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I'll ask my snap on man when i next see him phil, he did a real good deal on mine
over_head_cam Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 Oerlikon Citoline 1700M I've been looking at this one, it has good features for the price. I haven't heard of the make before, but the reviws seem good. Has anyone got one from this manufacturer? I'm looking at Sip Trade Weldmate T140W and Murex Tradesmig 141 not so many features, but more recognised names
over_head_cam Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 I'll ask my snap on man when i next see him phil, he did a real good deal on mine Thanks Tom. I've looked at the Snap on/Cebora welders too and can't decide
Slammed Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 heard good comments about the cebora welders phil im still plodding along with my clarke 90en, served me well so far
johnny_h Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I have been using this for thin plate welding/ bodywork repairs. It's all I need and only 200 ish. Obviously if you gonna spend 400 you will get a lot more for your money.
Savvi Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I have the older version of this : http://www.tool-supplies.co.uk/sealey-t ... ts_id/3847 I bought it around 15 years ago and never had any problems except for replacing the torch inners, it's done loads of work in that time !!!
mk3cokebottle Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I have the older version of this : http://www.tool-supplies.co.uk/sealey-t ... ts_id/3847 I bought it around 15 years ago and never had any problems except for replacing the torch inners, it's done loads of work in that time !!! this be the same one that we got in our workshop and it is fantastic for everything that we use it for ...including welding up new h frames etc i trust it
gpcmatric Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Phil any more thoughts on what make you are going for?
capri71 Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 £400? thats Portamig money. pm weldequip here - http://www.mig-welding.co.uk
hellblue Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Dont count out BOC mate go & look in your nearest depot & see what they have i bought a sealey mig which works ok (but had better) then went to BOC a few weeks latter only to find i could have got a lincoln electric mic for £60 more which will crap over the sealey
SmokeEm Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 I find Duck Tape works just as well as my welding
over_head_cam Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 Thanks for you replies so far chaps. I've looked at afew S/H machines too, but I keep getting drawn back to this: http://www.wecs-ltd.co.uk/index.php?pag ... 6&vmcchk=1 It's hard to get to a shop or supplier to work out a deal on anything as they're all closed by the time I get in Dave -
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I'm looking to buy a new one. I've got about 400 quid to spend, so I'm after some recommendations really you can buy mine for £400 i will bring it to ford fair lol
capri71 Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Had a look at that welder... dunno whats special about it for thin stuff - lowest setting is 30amp which isn't low enough to say its for thin stuff. Also, the price you see does not include a torch or line or anything AND ive never even heard of the make soI'll bet its made in china. Do your homework on PORTAMIGS, honestly... nothing to touch them for less than a grand AND they are MADE IN ENGLAND and can go down to like 15amps, so you could weld the thinnest of the thin without warping the workpeice or blowing holes. Oh, and the euro torch is included
hellblue Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 found this site if it helps mate, cant say that one you linked does much for me,& it is very easy to buy a crap welder take your time http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/inde ... 6ff4f166ad
Fiesta Steve Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I use a sealy 190 at work EVERYDAY, its gets used a abused and it never lets me down, I also have bought another one for my own workshop, both are great for the money (£400 should get you one). I do all sorts with mine including repairing lorry chassis's and haven't had any lorrys snap in half yet, lol
over_head_cam Posted July 14, 2009 Author Report Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks for the comments guys. Apparently the one in the link is made in Holland. TBH this is doing my head in. Some welders have the features, some the power, some the min amps and some the price. Can't find what I want that has a good mix of all.
w p e Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 sealey 180 had mine from new now 20plus years still gong strong cant knock it in any way
