I was in the clothes part of tesco yesterday and a doris in there was telling her (5 ish) daughter that "If I can't see you a bad man will take you away". She said it more than once, and the little girl didn't take much notice, so I guess it was used regularly.

I just thought, what a terrible thing to be saying to your kids.

I was once walking through the centre of Paignton in Devon & a doris said to her young daughter "If you don't keep up a nasty man will come & take you & kill you!"

That stuff winds me up and I was waiting at a bus stop once and a doris said to her child that that policeman will come and take you away if your naughty.

 

I didnt agree with that and said to her in front of about 4 others that that wasnt the way to talk about Police ( they are there to help )

 

She was quite embarrased.......
