Dont think its pratical to galvanise a old car, bearing in mind its a molton metal process distortion could be a real problem, I suspect there is now an Electrolytic process that things like VW/porsche use. but how obtainable is the process, I havent a clue.

I think vista's mk1 is galvanised

It's certainly had something done to it but as it happened before I owned it I'm not 100% sure what it was. Electroplating maybe? Whatever mine looks like, I share V8IANS suspicions about hot dip galvanising causing distortion of body panels.

Of course there's always E-coating?

I was always of the knowledge that galvanizing used too much heat and it would buckle the panels, its more widely used on trailors and like you say landrover chassis as they are alot stronger. electrophoretic coating is a better option.

surface processing is really your best option. They acid dip your car to remove all paint, rust, underseal, and just about everything thats not good quality steel, then they spray the whole car in primer, this costs £800.

They then give you the car back so you can do any repairs that have become evident, then you give it back to them again for the e-coat process which I think is another £800. Theres quite a long waiting list though I think!!

Worth every penny in my opinion, when its all done your essentially building up a new car and you know its not going to rot out again in 10 years time! If only ford did this from new. Although if they had done I expect old skool fords would be much more common now, making them less valuble, desirable and cool. Maybe its a good think they didn't then...

A few years ago i was restoring a Ford D series breakdown truck at the ford dealer i worked at, the service manager had a bright idea to try and galvernise the doors id just repaired, well to say they were knackered upon return was an understament, twisted to hell, not a good idea to do a full shell,
