michael_200 Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 hey just a quick one for a bit of advice, the girlfriends 1994 mini had a new alternator about 3 months ago and the battery went dead at the weekend so stuck a new battery in it went dead again there tonight any ideas? ps still have to get photos of the mk1 esc up soon wasnt to much hastle gettin it registered from malta
baz105e Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 start the car and put a volt meter between the battery terminals, if there is around 14.5 volts then the alternator is ok. anything lower than 14ish volts then its packed up. the alternator is quite exposed on a mini and with the weather just lately your new one could've packed up too. hope this helps
Andrade Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Check if the alternator belt is tightened well, apart from voltage you need to check the amperage as well. the alternator has to mach the amperage of the battery, or be a bit more, otherwise it dies pretty easily. P.S: stop taking our mk1 & 2 escorts away!!! (im from Malta)
littlecarl Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Check the ign light works before you start the car. If it don't light up the alternator wont charge the battery
