Shot Blasting price?

Hi all,

 

I'm rebuilding a MK1 escort wth fibre glass arches and have it fully stripped. about to get a quote to get underside, inside, engine bay and boot shot blasted but thought would see what other people have been charged as well. used him before for wheels etc and always been good. Would just like a comparison. Theres loads of underseal on it and i just havnt got the time to be stripping it by hand, it ill never get done other wise. Cheers for any thought. lg

when i spoke to some one about sand blasting my car he said he could only do the seams as it would just buckle eveything else i just think he didnt want to do it lol.

how much is sandblasting? ive got mk1 now and its covered in underseal i dont mind takin it off meself but is sandblasting the way foward?

yeah shot blastings brilliant- wish i'd had the cortina done , make sure you get it done by a reputable firm experienced at doing cars, don't have the roof or big panels like rear quarters and bonnets done as they can end up bent and distorted if they get carried away, to have a car done don't expect it to be cheap- have a ring round from the yellow pages, I'd expect to pay anything between £200-£600 but the end result is worth it just in time/aggro saved on a project,

acid dipping is the best way of removing paint - but alot more expensive then blasting. blasting mainly depends on which company its done by, but most blasting people wont do large panels incase of warping

google home made ways to sandblasting, all you need is a spraygun and a compresser and some pipe

 

all ill say, its VERY effective! gives a pretty good finish to paint on also!

now u mention it me dads got a machine with a sand blaster attachment, we only used the water pipe to blast the patio with, surely blasting in the garage will kick up dust all over the place..

last time i used the sandblaster was cleaning a V-Tec lump, i made up my own 'blasting booth' by hanging tarpaulin from the ceiling. very messy ! IMO leave it to the experts if its only going to cost £200/£300

hmm tempting but then i wouldnt want me panels warped like ya say.. whats the best route to take du rekon? i plan to keep me mk1 for ages n ages so i guess its the way to go even if it does blast holes like ive been told..

if you've got the cash - Acid Dip

if you've got some cash - shot blast the floors, engine bay and underside. nitromors/hand stip the exterior panels

just be prepared for what you get back ! i took a mk2 RS2k for blasting a couple of months ago, came back and only the roof was worth saving ! looked fine before the paint/filler came out of it

wasnt my personal shell, was one of the boss's ones make sure you shop around for the best possible shell you can afford

Right then i've gone to see the bloke that does shot blasting for me. he said he would do it for £400 quid inside underside, engine bay, boot and exterior, as long as i remove the underseal as it just clogs up his machine. can do body panels as well as uses a soft plastic bead of some sort. didnt think it was too bad so will be sending it in soon. its a cheaper alternative to acid dipping which i've had done in the past and was very good. will put photos up when its done. lg

Sorry to hi-jack but how much is acid dippin usually?? And what company would you guys recommend in the midlands area?
