I've been having problems with my Sony Cybershot camera, it's great for day / outside shots but when it comes to needing a flash ........ it not good to say the least !!!! The pics come out really dark, black, completely white or red in no order. I know nothing about cameras but getting P***ed of with taking pics of a special occasion only to find it don't come out. Should i buy a new one (if so what do i get ?) or is it something i'm doing wrong ? Ideally want something point and shoot easy to use, hence buying this a couple of years ago, but also want something decent to be able to zoom in even inside and get a nice pic. Any help advice would be nice, it's coming up to School play time again and would like some pics of the kids before they grow up !!!
pauln Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 I'm assuming the Cybershot is a compact camera. First of all the flash on a compact doesn't have much range 15 feet at best. Just check yourself to make sure you are not covering the flash while holding the camera. Can you post a couple of pics at close to a few feet range so we can see the probs. Most compacts have a green square or P on the dial so make sure you are on one of those ranges and check the flash is actually firing.

They are all with the same camera and settings (on Auto) some are took one and another, i've had this camera for a while and it never used to be like this. You can see why i so P***ed off with it, we paid extra to "put Billy Bear to bed" and these are the best pics i have

Was speaking to a guy at a party tonight and he said it sounded like the camera has been dropped and the prism has been damaged ? It does also make a funny noise sometimes, so i think it's another camera needed .......... So what do i go for ? As you can tell i'm a complete amateur and want something easy to use.
GT_lenny Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 i'm a complete spanner with camera's and bought a samsung L301 recently which i've been quite impressed with so far 12megawotsits and £99 with a 4gb card and case fits in me pocket and even i can take nice photees wiv it
Copey Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 i have a Samsung S850 very nice cam, got a great point and click setting that gets pics nice and then nice fine tuning modes to fiddle with, though i dont know what any of them do would recomend samsung cams though, produce VERY nice photographs

jay_g Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Its going to be tricky to salvage some of those blurred pics but the ones with colour and exposure problems may just need working on. Sounds like the camera is damaged, or at least its ability to do things in auto. Not sure what manual settings it has and thats only any good if you know some basic priciples. Its always worth learning a bit more even if the kids are getting to an age that they dis -own you for family trips etc. You can always take some more artistic shots of fords or perhaps the other half may become a little more adventurous. Dont buy a cheap camera and dont think that mega pixels are everything, its not always how many you have but also the quality of them.

jay_g Posted November 1, 2009 Report Posted November 1, 2009 Hope I am not treading on Fred Transit't toes here but couldn't help but see how well a couple of those pics could be salvaged, hope they are a bit more useful now. Just to let you know that dark images and images that dont represent the right colour can usually be salvaged but over exposed, bright images usually have to much info missing to do much with.

Thats ok then, didnt want to upset anyone, was a tricky pic to salvage to be honest so your software did quite well. I use photoshop but it still doesnt just magically do it for you, takes some playing with, well more trial and error.
