lloyd963 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 It might sound like a chavvy/bodge thing to do (and i dont want this to sound rediculous or anything) but has anyone tried drilling their airbox? and does anyone know if the effects of this would be similar to a k&n or equivliant 'bolt on' filter? or would it just be a pointless exercise?
lloyd963 Posted November 9, 2009 Author Report Posted November 9, 2009 I take that as a no then haha! sorry just a curious apprentice erm... experimenting.
petrolhead Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 Its not an unreasonable mod and used to be a big thing in the Hot Rod scene stateside. What kind of air box and where were you gou to drill it? You would prob see larger gain if you made some cold air ducting to feed the airbox. If you can lower the intake temp by 3'c you should make a 1% power increase. Its largely overlooked but can make a difference.

To be REALLY honest it was only for my little 1100 fiesta with standard airbox being 19 and on my own insurance so i kinda need to do everything i can haha. Where to drill it was going to be my next question, however, on a bolt on filter, surely the whole thing is exposed so i was just thinking all around the outside but it would surely suck in warm air, handy on winter mornings i suppose but not for much else
Fiesta Steve Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I just remove the filter and box altogether, works for me
lloyd963 Posted November 9, 2009 Author Report Posted November 9, 2009 I just remove the filter and box altogether, works for me What is this just generally (sounds like a good idea ) or is that on winter mornings?
Ste-V Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I just remove the filter and box altogether, works for me Seconded, I run my fiesta on a twinchoke weber without an air filter. Never done mine any harm! Tried a K&N on it, doesn't like it
Fiesta Steve Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I just remove the filter and box altogether, works for me What is this just generally (sounds like a good idea ) or is that on winter mornings? I never ever ever run with filters on any old skool ford at any time of year ps. I use my car daily ie; sun/snow/wind/scattered showers etc..
supersport Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 just cut the sides out of the air box, will help to get a bit more air in, just have the change the filter more often.
