Jiffer Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 for some insane reason i got a peugeot partner van last week so far i've done about 50 miles in it and its broke 3 clutch cables, if anyones got any ideas why this is happening let me know or its going to get caterpiller treatment.
X-pack-Glyn Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Dunno if its the same but the old 405s had a plastic link in the cable that was designed to break instead of the cable breaking... maybe the van is the same. Why on earth did you buy french???
Dale Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 a friend bought an 207 GTI in 07..... just shy of £18K 8 days... gearbox went. a specialist had to fly over from france to fit a new one. it took 4 weeks to get the car back. 8 weeks after... clutch slave cylinder. another 2 weeks in the garage. 1 week later clutch master cylinder another week in the garage. 3 weeks later brakes making a rattle so they fitted new ones. they still squeek! 5 months trouble free! well apart from the air con never working... de pollution system failure - turbo not working car went in to a safety mode. (ment i could fly past him in my fiesta, wheres your 175 break now!?) turned out to be some sensor somewhere. a few months back. lumpy idle poor performance. felt like it was running on 3 cylinders. turned out a spark plug had completely disintegrated 2 months after his service. he had a nice bill for £140 odd. and to this day is having problems! seems like a problem with the turbo... have to rev up to 2K before pulling off else the car will just stall. really rough drive.. smokey. he's given up taking it back. just counting the days before he can give it back next year. how ever much i hate all cars french when it worked... fantastic performance, handles, brakes. amazing. but i dont think it makes up for the serious reliability issues.

X FLOW EDDY Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 A mate of mine had a renult 19 16v a few years ago and after fitting the 4th gear box he got the hint and flogged it to a chav !!!!!!!!!!
caprinerd Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 i served my time at r.enaul.t london on the A40 parkroyal and now wont touch one, just refuse point blank
Wessie Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 put genuine cables on them if not the release bearings have a tendancy to fook up so it might be worth changing a clutch - always works on the berlingo's
Jiffer Posted November 12, 2009 Author Report Posted November 12, 2009 I only got it because the my plasterer wont give me my transit back and the chap said it was faultless and he had been running up to manchester and back on a regular basis. think he was choking my chicken somewhat, its in the garage now having a new clutch then its off, I'm not selling it on fooked.

Mr Sam Posted November 14, 2009 Report Posted November 14, 2009 wheres it breaking? my fezzy Si did 3 cables in as many months, bad clutch fork design the end of the cable would rust onto the fork so it wasnt free to move and eventually just snap the cable,,,,whack a load of grease in on the clutch fork oh and ........ dont trust anything french further than you can push it (by now)
Jiffer Posted November 14, 2009 Author Report Posted November 14, 2009 it was the fingers on the clutch they were badly worn, had a new one fitted now
