dawesy1700 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 im restoring my mk2 escort and whilst its in pieces i've decided to paint all the running gear, axle, propshaft, gearbox, struts etc, but i dont want to brush it on, id rather spray it, what paint have people used? cheers.
Andrade Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 on moving parts under the car i wouldn't go for spray as they'll end up getting all chipped anyway after some time of use... in my opinion a careful coat of hammerite would be best
baz105e Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 you can put hammerite through the spray gun with a 50/50 mix with standard thinners hope this helps
GT_lenny Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 get em powdercoated, more durable and very shiney
wild pete Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 por 15 much better than hammerite looks like powder coating you just gota prep it as it says
dawesy1700 Posted January 2, 2010 Author Report Posted January 2, 2010 por 15? ill have a look for that, and for the hammerite in a 50/50 mix with thinners, that'll be perfect, and i wish i could afford powder coating, maybe in the future, cheers lads.
wild pete Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 get por 15 from frosts , u only need a little tin would do an axle case easy u brush it on it dries like its been sprayed .but like i say u must prep it as it says . do lots of research before u use it
GJUK Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 I'm using stuff called plasticote, you can buy it in B&Q. Vulcan use it on their engine blocks, so a friend told me (forgive me if thats not true!) It's meant to be very good at lasting. Jon
nik_plant Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 hammerite smooth brushed on is what ive been using, as it dries the brush strokes smooth out, powder coatings defantly more durable though
andygfc Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Rustoleum, similar to hammerite but, mixes with white spirit, so much easier to use. Used on JCBs so I'm told
Guest chriscapriman Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 poweder coating is shit, proper over rated imo as soon as it is chipped, it starts to lift and you cant just tiouch it up like ya can with paint a previous owner powdercoated the bumpers on my capri, after 12months half of it was hanging off hammerite or por15, like has been said tho por15 needs a bit more prep but it looks better
