Spray gun help

Hi. I am purchasing a spraygun to spray my Capri. Any recommendations on what to get/nozzle size/etc. I don't know what the hp on this model od compressor is as it's an old one - but presumably 4 hp?. Any help would be appreciated. I'll be primer and metallic spraying. Thanks BUrt

Cheers, so any suction paint gun, presumably with a moisture/water trap somewhere between the compressor and gun would be fine. I see guns that are gravity fed/suction fed - guns that require between 2 - 3hp some 3 - 4hp, some that require a certain CFM. I don't know what my hp or the CFM would be on the compressor i have - if i knew all of this it would help me no end. Anyone know if i can/how i can calculate this. Ta

gravity feed guns are better, my mate picked his up for £30 on flea bay and it works a treat, 50-60 psi is all you need and it'll use less paint then a suction feed gun

How do they get on if your say spraying an awkward/inaccessible part of the motor - like a lip under a wheel arch - or a sill. Presumably you need to keep them pretty much upright at all times?? I know you'd have to do it with any spray gun, but are gravity ones more prone to splatter if tilted? Cheers - Burt.

i found that with my similar compressor that turned down to low pressure it wouldnt come out of the spray gun, so had to spray with the pressure turned right up,but then ul prob find that when its built up pressure it shoots the paint out ok but then slowly dies pressure wise as u go along, i found the best thing to do is run ur compressor on full pressure and spend a little bit more on a gravity feed gun with adjustable pressure on the side of the gun and it keeps the paint comin out at a constant pressure and ya get a much much better finish, i bought a sealy gold paint gun for £60 and was defo 100%money well spent, ive tried the cheap guns and there ok for primer but if u want a decent finish go for the better gun, especially if ur only usin a small compressor

Gravity are better in that respect.

 

I tried a suction and everytime you tilt the thing they lose paint, gravity will almost work upside down for a short period !
