Mr Sam Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 right something else thats been playig on my mind...... the mechanic at work has been doing a spot of work to his old skool motor over the xmas break new head gasget axel all sorts got it all done and it had no guts, so junked the fuel pump for an electric one and says it goes like a rocket, its a plastic pig Btw anyway on a 1600 crosflow with say a 32/36 would it be worth fitting an electric pump or is the standard one adequate the only other thought was power consumption, which will use more power from the engine, the cam driving the mechanical pump or the motor drawing current from the alternator? and if i was togo leccy pump whats the oe togo for?? i intend runing a regulator and pressure gauge and eventually twin webbers so i may aswell fork out now for one that will be upto the job of fueling some webbers
livewire7116 Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 The mechanical pump is more than upto the job with your spec. save your money and spend it on something worth while
Mr Sam Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 im gonna buy a fuel reg and gauge anyway so i know the mechanical pump giving a good fuel pressure spose its not much of a job to remove it and fit a blanking plate with the engine in stiu and cheers to Ashton junior for his input via msn
mk3tina Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 i fitted a leccy pump onto my standard 1600 xflow (along with regulator and blanking plate, switch etc) the whole lot cost me no more than £40 and it really was a worthwile investment, mainly because it ran terrible or even not at all sometimes so i think the mechanical pump was on its way out. another advantage is that you know its pumping gas as you can hear it going, and its solid state so will last a very long time compared to mechanical pumps. in fact it was so good i bought myself another one with another regulator in case i buy another car.
deltamal Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 I used to have a 1700 crossflow on twin webber's in the Corty, it was fine with normal driving, but could not keep up on steep hills, weak mixture, burnt piston, put a leccy pump on no more probs, better on the strip as well!
