I replaced the neck about 3 years ago when i was puting the car together, im sure its fine.

Its smells even more because im using V-power fuel.

There is a metal pipe coming from the fuel tank which leads nowhere inside the boot...

that metal pipe should lead to a vent hole in the boot floor under the catch on the back panel

Not escort I know but my Anglia Van (like all the vans) vents thru the fuel cap. If i use the car cover over it, the fumes seem to build up under the cover and find their way into the van. Bit dangerous I thought, as when you open the door the light comes on...perfect ignition source. When the cover isnt used there is no smell at all in the garage, so i no longer use it. Just suspect todays petrol is much more volatile and fumey than the old stuff.

My Mk1 smells also, even though i have got it vented via the fuel pipe. MIne vents out through a hole in the rear panel on the right hand side just below the rear lamp unit and above the bumper though?? It looks like an original swaged hole also??

I think all old cars seem to smell of fuel though, particularly carburetted cars, i think the fuel smell comes from the engine bay through the poorly insulated bulkhead and the locality of the heather inlet to the carb and engine in general? :?
